Recommend me some riding boots

Hey Everyone,

Having a tough time on which boot to get. I have had the alphine fast lane shoes before. They suck in protection an comfort. I am looking for maybe a 3/4 but nothing too high like them shin ones. Most importantly, they must cover the ankle because I ride into military bases that are strict on this rule. I am also asking that it be comfortable for moderate walking distances and it must be waterproof.

The last Toys for Tots run, it was pouring rain and my shoes got all stinky from it not being waterproof and I have tried washing it out. It still stinks and I have been looking for an excuse to get another boot. So now I am going to get myself a new pair for myself for as an xmas gift.

My price range right now is between $150-$200 depending on the style. Color doesn't matter as most likely they will all be black or have no other options than black.

I did see one that I wanted and liked. Read good reviews about comfort and walking. The First Gear Express Boot....but sadly they stopped making it and the size is limited to what is left in stock. So if it is somewhere like the Express Boot, I'm pretty much all for it.

Bates makes a few which are very comfortable for walking in and have good durable soles. I wear their GoreTex version - runs about $130 or so. Good combination of protection and comfort without looking like a race boot.

Dr. Scholl work boot insoles were the best thing I ever did to my Sidi boots (which are out of your price range, so I won't mention them)

I don't know what to tell you as far as 3/4 and protecting you (or complying with base rules?)

I know Dainese and Firstgear make some decent 3/4 styles, but no experience with them. Icon has some, but those that I've had were heavy. Look at something between a 3/4 and a full length boot (e.g., Dainese Kisoro, though that's just above your $ range) to get some protection.

It doesnt necessarily have to be 3/4. They can even be over the ankles. I just dont want them high shins or anything below ankle coverage. I would think about them shin ones but I think they may be too much over what I am looking for

On the military base, it doesnt matter as long as they over the ankles so there shouldnt be that much concern

HonorsDaddy, thanks for the input.

Umary, I live in hawaii at the moment

Go somewhere that stocks some gear and try some on and walk around the store. Comfort is a relative term. What's good for someone else may not necessarily be comfortable to you.

pretty limited here. There are only 2-3 shops and they carry limited supplies themselves.

Okay, well there was thread about that on wfo riders. Lots of good info in there But the majority of the people in that thread said they wear alpinestars or sidi. Havent tried sidi but 0 complaints about alpinestars but all those reviews were mainly for their race boots

Also I would push you to consider the full boots, you can wear them over jeans so they won't look weird if thats one thing youre worried about. I can show you a picture of my leg if you want when I had a truck hit me when I didnt have full boots on if you want :P but I guess if you want the comfort for walking a good amount then that will be different

The supertech r are on my list but they could be outside your price range. But I would PM houseofpaint and see if he can ship to you with this deal he has going on

I have some Sidi streetburners in 9.5 that I'll let go for $40. They've had some use for sure but they're not worn out.

Sidi! Full boot ... FTW. Costs a lot but best investment and protection IMO. Top of the line are pricey but you'll save on the long run being able to swap out the soles!

The Vortice Airs are . Comfy as but way out of my price range.

I'm still rocking my 3 year old BiLt specials. They're comfy with some Dr. Scholls inserts. I'm about to replace my soles with Sidi replacement soles
