MX to motard conversion ?s

1. What kind of lap times are the fast guys running at MSRH?

2. What are must do's before riding an mx bike on road race track (motard style)? Ive got a KX450F 2013, stock motor with suspension and few upgrades.

I'm figuring extra set of wheels with road race tires, gearing change,... of course bigger brakes help but with a stock KX450f are the brake upgrades necessary?

Im an expert rider and I push the bike for sure. I've been racing moto x for decades and I can get around pretty decent on a 600 or liter bike at the tracks.. (level3 expert).

Thanks for the input guys.

I was running 55's at MSRH on my Husqvarna. I have not upgraded the front brakes yet either. My bike is heavy too. The 450's can move out pretty good. My bike has a little work done to the forks. Needs a nee rear spring for sure. MX springs are too lite for the track. Convert it over. It's a blast for sure.

I think Larry used to run :48's on his SVX. Looks like the winning pace was slower this year.. :51's.

forks, shock, wheelset, tires, brakes, gearing.

You might be able to get away with the stock front brake setup for the street, but definitely not on the track. Motomaster makes a good axial mount conversion for a radial style caliper. Beringer also makes good 4 and 6 piston calipers to mount to your axial fork leg. You'll need to upgrade your master cylinder if you get a 4 pot caliper.

Send a message via AIM to mekrew
Im by no means fast and can run 51's at msrh so im sure you would be able to knock a second off of that or more

i would listen to mxrider and upgrade the front brakes for sure, suspension well im not fast or rich so i just got some knobs turned on my stock stuff

Just know you will be ringing that thing the out so get some good gearing im in the process of a winter rebuild from the last msrh day

Excellent, thanks for the info fellas.
The 2013 kx450 has air forks so I can change the setup with an airpump (doesnt have springs). JM racing stiffened the suspension a bit as im an aggressive mx rider. Im sure the track is going to be quite different and I might jump a few curbs on instinct alone!!
The braking and gearing are things Im looking at for sure. The motor has 19 hours on it right now and I'm not sure i want to subject it to road racing???

I am working on getting back my CRF450R tard to race next year.

The more the better.

Also, Fastline will be running GSS again next year. It's just track days, but a of a lot of fun out there on a tard.
