we don't always want to hear it, and at times we get a bit defense for ourselves and our friends...and while we call them accidents and not "on purpose"... Hail was correct, they can be avoided...
I have never been in an accident, or read about one that I could not learn something from, or was at least reminded of something I already knew...
every accident has a cause, the phrase happens is just a cop out...

High speed wobble is first indication that it could have been avoided.

If you're riding a sportbike on the street anywhere near it's designed potential then your chances of having a painful/serious accident are much greater than if you're just piddling along on a cruiser.

Everyone here knows that by definition (and with intent) sportbikes are conceived and produced with the intent and capability to perform above and beyond the roadway limits that are put in place by the department of transportation.

It's simple physics that riding these things like they're meant to be ridden has more inherent danger than bikes of less performance-oriented design and that accidents occur at those limits much more easily and with greater potential for harm.

Yes, this incident could've been avoided. But I don't think every incident is avoidable. In hindsight there are things that you think of that could've been done different but sometimes, happens.

Yea he had a steering damper, it was set to one below the highest setting, we checked. But I know a few weeks ago he was talking about borrowing damper from BTR. I don't know if it was properly working or not. At the speed (55 or so) he was traveling when he hit that hump in the road caused the suspension to become unsettled, and I don't think he was ready for it. I'm sure he had just a small contact patch of tire on the road.

When I go over bumps humps dips or whatever my asz is off my seat all I can adjust for whatever the bike is gonna throw me. If the hump or dip is big I take the turn right and stand it up as much as I can to help with the suspension chatter

i do not intend to, and i hope that no one else is putting the bad mouth on the rider...I had an accident back in 1966 where i went down... even though the lady ran a stop sign and pulled out in front of me, if i had been riding more defensively and thinking ahead, I could have avoided the accident...I was not at fault and did nothing wrong, but I would still classify it as an avoidable accident.

I don't think anyone is bad mouthing the rider. I just don't think every accident is avoidable. Like you said, you weren't at fault and did nothing wrong. In hindsight there are things you could've done different but who knows. happened. I can't think of a better way to put it.

Not related to this crash...

Sometimes when you are out there just having a blast riding with your friends and being all goofy and , you get a little carried away and then you take a few chances and boom before you can tell yourself to kick it back a notch, you are in a ditch and trying to get a grasp on what just happened...

"Never ride faster than your angel can fly"

Sounds like he needed a suspension set up. Dampers are bandaids and if anything, should be set at the lowest setting possible if at all.

ZX10's are prone to headshakes if not dialed in; and depending on rider weight can't be set up with stock springs and valving.

And often as not, head shake is rider induced.. bikes left alone will straighten themselves out. Would like to hear his thoughts if he can remember, as to whether he fought it trying to straighten it out, or relaxed and stayed on the gas.

Didn't know about this accident, hope he's going to be ok. Crabb River is my normal commute home everyday. Love the ride but theres a few bad spots especially on the right side headed out away from the tracks. Big bump close to George Ranch.
