I've read countless articles that state "authorities identified _____ ______ as the victim" ect.

so I guess all these years I thought that "authorities" were police who identified this person on the scene, when in reality the information has to come from the forensics labs to be legally released??

I guess it's just a process I haven't paid much attention to until I thought about it this morning.
