HGTV show host Bill Beckwith dies in San Francisco crash

SAN FRANCISCO -- A Bay Area contractor and host of the hit HGTV television show "Curb Appeal" was killed Monday night in a motorcycle crash in San Francisco's Haight district, the medical examiner said.

Bill Beckwith, 38, died at San Francisco General Hospital after he was hit on his motorcycle by another vehicle near Oak and Steiner streets about 8:30 p.m. authorities said. While San Francisco police would not disclose details about how the crash occurred, they said the 30-year-old driver of the other vehicle was not injured, and stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

For two years, Beckwith co-hosted "Curb Appeal," an HGTV home renovation program that chronicled the overhaul of a home's exterior. He was living in San Francisco, where he owned and operated his own construction company, BBDesignBuild, out of the city's Castro district. A native of Maine, he moved to Northern California in the early 2000s after studying English and martial arts at the University of Montana.

A Facebook page has been created in Beckwith's memory at

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1383520048562840/. His girlfriend, Yulia Korneeva, wrote on Facebook: "My love: so kind, so bright, adventurous and strong. You are loved by so many good people! I wish you could stay with us for way longer."

HGTV network representatives could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
