You must have a ninja turtle back protector too.

Go to HD-Forums.com and read how fast lots of them think their Harleys are.

Someone should inform them that a 1200 Guzzi is quicker then their old 96 CI Street-Bob's. Then watch as they give the "Because it's Italian" remark..

That being said, who the buys a Harley because you feel like going fast? You buy it to cruise and because you like Harley's..sheesh.

People confuse loudness with speed. And when they only ride with their slow Harley friends, they don't have a real comparison. Sure some Harley's are legitimately fast, but most aren't.

Probably talking about a YZF-600R. Made for many years, and the lower-tech predecessor (and slower brother) to the R6. I almost bought one in '94 when they came out. They made them a long time. I think up until about '07 or '08. They were solid bikes that crashed well

My best friend Craig had one for a long time. He dropped it at Roebling Road doing a pretty good clip and it hardly phased it. My R6 always looked like someone pulled the pin on its grenade every time it hit the ground. Solid bikes, but not as race oriented as the R6.

Yes your sportbike will beat a Harley.......no debate from me there

However the original thread said CHOPPER.......
I've owned both a chopper & a 1000 at the same time
a friend helped out with the "testing"

The Bourget would smoke a sportbike off the line & even in roll on's would lead or hang even until around 100 where the aerodynamics started playing a bigger part.

If you go dropping cash down on a race with a nice chopper in an 8th.... your money may not be as safe as you might think.

Hildo´s Harley vs Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade - YouTube
fast bike.
But I'm really not sure what your point is about the "chopper." By (wikipedia) definition a "chopper is either modified from an original motorcycle design ("chopped") or built from scratch to have a unique hand-crafted appearance."

Everyone knows that you can make something that was not intended to go fast actually go very very fast. See the Turbo Van.

The point is that lots of Harley riders buy these big heavy bikes that are meant to be comfortable and look cool, but then think that since its loud and faster than the truck they drive that its faster than every other bike out there.

And most of them live in denial about it, even after they get smoked by a 600 on their 1800cc hog

lol, Bourget. Yea sure, compare a $40k+ fully custom motorcycle to a <$10k stock sportbike. I would certainly hope that it could be faster

This cracks me up, I've had this convo before too. I was practically the only sportbike rider when I lived in the hillcountry. One of my best friends (r.i.p.) built custom choppers and he knew my bike was fast but wasn't all that familiar with newer sportbikes. When we'd go on poker runs the other (ignorant) harley riders would try to get Gary to race me. One guy was "Awe 'cmon man, stomp that crackerjack toy!". Gary looked at him square in the face and said "You're a idiot if you think any of the harleys here are that fast".

Gary's bike could pull your truck out of a ditch though, brutal torque!

Long Run? Prob not.

I used to hurt some feelings with my dad's 103ci Dyna Glide SS though.
Absolutely brutal torque like Blake said up to 90-95mph.

Man, the torque is no joke. I have a buddy that had well over $10k in his engine alone, think it was like a 110. Whatever it was, I seem to remember that his cases had to be bored for the new displacement. He let me ride it once, and from about a 30 roll it felt like it would just about snap your neck if you hit the throttle hard. Hit the rev limit REALLY fast though, so I doubt it would top out at any more than about 120-130, just being gearing limited.

They can be fun, but it's still no super sport.

after 100 mph I don't even think there's a Bourget keeping up with a modern liter bike.

With the weight some choppers have in the rear, along with the big bore engines. I bet some of them can pull a sportbike off the line.......a straight line that is. Ask him how fast he can take a corner at a lean angle of 45+ degrees.
