DRZ400sm Does it need upgraded suspension for track use?

My brother has basically a stock DRZ400sm that he/I was interested in potentially testing out at the track. Not level 3 speeds or anything. I'd say strong level 1 maybe low level 2. He's ~180lbs. Currently feel like the rear shock is pretty soft (lots of pogo stick effects) around town. Bike is completely stock suspension wise. Would it be a HUGE improvement if I upgraded with new springs and valving? Should I do just springs? Am I just wasting money in general? LOL.

Not needed but definately helps. Just watch out for the nose dive when on the brakes really hard. Its definately a huge difference but not needed.

Give me a shout man....

I've built a bunch of DRZ suspensions for track use and they're definitely soft stock.
I'd start with a basic suspension set up and than evaluate it from there.
