Angry Broke shift lever while riding

So I'm riding home from a long days work from Galveston to Bacliff, when out of no where when shifting from 2nd to 3rd BAM I feel my foot just shoot up, I look down and my lever is hanging by the pedal bolt. I pull over to the nearest gas station and see that I somehow managed to break the shear pin holding the lever to the gear rod. I had to ride 20 miles in 2nd gear and hope that the engine didn't blow up on me and I die in a horrifically cool motoexplosion
Once I got home, I just knocked out the shear pin and rebolted with a screw, some nuts and a lock washer.

TL;DR Have y'all ever had this issue, where you have super strength in your foot and just snap your shifter?

Happened once some time ago. I just ripped the peg and used the rod, shifted up and down without a problem, waited about a week for the replacement and fixed it, but during that time I rode a couple more times, actually, a friend went down once a broke the same peg and somebody change the passenger peg to the shift one, it was weird because you could fold it easily, but it was a quick fix.

The only thing i have ever snapped while riding was a condom, and boy let me tell you its not something a bolt and lock washer can take care of

It is because you were going too slow on your 600 should have gotten that literbike already.
