Interested in trackdays

Aylo fellas,

So, I've been interested more and more in track days. I'm playing around with the idea of getting a beater track bike (like an 07' Zx6r or something similar because there's no way in I'm about to track my 13') and attending a few trackdays.

From all of you seasoned track guys, what does an average day at the track actually cost and what do you need to be able to participate? I've been looking around and there isn't really any information about any Texas tracks. Also what are the **best** tracks to attend around Htown?

First time with Ridesmart is half off! You also get free leather rental. You will be fine with your bike. Its your first track day.

Closet track to Houston is MSRh. Next trackday with Ridesmart will be November 30th in college station at TWS (Texas World Speedway)!

Price is cheap at first. Once you get faster is when it gets expensive. Two main tracks are msrh in angleton and TWS (Texas World Speedway) by college station.

Yea do TWS (Texas World Speedway) with them at the end of the month with your bike. Not that many tight turns ans you will get a feel for it and talk to more people about it there.

If you want to be cheap.. I suggest getting a 250. Yeah it is low on power but loads of fun and teaches you alot of basics. Always remember that trackdays are as cheap or expensive as you make them.

There are some essentials:

1) Tires (As you get faster your cost/set goes up as well as your burn through rate unless you are on a 250 which is very easy on tires)

2) Gas in the bike ( 250 is easier on gas as well but you get the idea)

3) Crashing is really really really expensive.

Now if you got money to burn do what you want but I would suggest getting faster very slowly and incrementally to avoid the charges of number 3 and reduce the charges of the first two until you are sure track is something you want to spend mundo cash on. A 250 will give you the taste at a very affordable price and lots of fun... you can almost do a whole season of track 2 times a month on one set of tires depending on how fast you are.

Wow, so, I'm looking at the website right now, I'd be paying HALF of the $135 and I get leather rental for FREE???? That's incredible.

I'm still REALLY weary about tracking my new bike (granted I have comprehensive), does happen. I'd much rather have a beater dedicated "track" bike so I won't worry at all about pushing my limits.

You get an instructor to follow you, and you follow them, they work with you....you get WAY BETTER real quick

You wont be sorry.

I thought I had it all figured out after putting about 20k miles on my Versys.

First track day was an eye opener.

It's my favorite day of every month!

Check your policy. Some (Progressive comes to mind) will deny coverage for anything that happens on a "race course" no matter if it's a race, track day, or whatever.

First time on the track, take your 13 just be cautious. Don't ride over your head and just learn the line and learn body positioning.

A. Ride trackdays like a good road ride not a race. Number one rule is don't crash. No 2 rule is have fun. The fact that its one way traffic, with no cages ducks geese or deer trying to kill you helps you feel confident in keeping rule one. The fact that the "police"(instructors) are there to help you go faster safer will lead to you excelling at rule 2 long before you're going fast enough to break rule 1.

B.That said in the novice class on your first day you'll be fine on your new bike. In fact that respect for your equipment will keep you from making stupid decisions you might otherwise risk on a bike you feel comfortable crashing.

What he said is mostly true... Cause deer have never been on TWS (Texas World Speedway)... and turtles have never been at MSRH....

Don't worry, start off slow.

I had the same fear.

You had the wreck just outside of the track lol
