CBR500R First Ride

Took a 30 minute ride on my salvaged CBR500R after spending some time and research and wrenching effort to get it running. All is good now, it is a complete running chassis. It's like a Ninja 250, with better brakes, better handling, and more torque. A great, smooth, quiet, and wonderfully easy bike to ride on the street. Without a doubt the best "beginner" oriented bike I have ever ridden. Full size, but not intimidating at all. For those who haven't seen one yet...

2013 honda cbr500r and john mcguinness in the 2013 iom tt 56004 7

And that will probably be it's farewell to street ride.... BRAWPS, let's destroy this thing on the racetrack next year!!!

But really, I like it so much I am seriously thinking about a CBR500X as my next "dual sport" adventure tourer / street bike...

One bike for every year I've been riding isn't hoarding. Oh snap, that's 31 years.

My name is Peter, and I have a problem.

Roundabout $4k - $4500, or the same as a new 250 / 300. I got mine way cheaper cause it was dropped on one side, then rider got scared, then bike sat unused and wouldn't start.

My buddy bought the CR500f as his first bike. I took it around the block a few times. Its a nice little bike. Super smooth throttle and suspension. Great for beginners!

Hope you enjoy yours.

Is the CBR500 as comfy as the ninja 500r on longer rides?

I haven't taken it over 2 miles yet, but the bars are comfy high, the seat height not low, not high, but definitely a few inches above the Ninja 250. Best part is the seat is FLAT. Wind protection is good. No buffeting at my 5'9". Fuel economy is supposed to be around 65. So maybe 250 miles per tank. I think it's a perfect lightweight long distance mount.

One motorcycle review says,

"The CBR500R achieves an estimated 71 mpg which, along with its 4.1 gallon fuel tank, yields an impressive average cruising range of 291 miles"
