Canyon roads near Austin (off season riding trip)

I used to live in Katy/work in Sugar Land, but now live/work near Kansas City. I'm considering taking some vacation time and looking to do some off season riding. When I lived near Houston, I frequented this forum. I remember a post about off season rides near Austin and something about "riding the canyons". I searched the forum, but came up empty. Does anybody recall? Does anybody have first hand experience of some great public roads worth a trip down to Austin (on par with riding in Southwest Missouri/ Northwest Arkansas)?

@BYRDMAN
Have you ridden on RR335, 336, or 337 lately? Are they in good condition? Any construction?

Lots of rides out that way with pics and updates. Search for "Hill Country" and/or "three sisters" and youll get some good results.

He was there last week....I definately wouldnt pass up the Osarks for the 3 sisters unless ur coming to visit family...

As of Labor Day weekend, 337 between Leakey and Camp Wood sucked, but the rest of the roads were in great shape. There was also a very short stretch of road running north out of Utopia that was nothing but gravel due to construction, but the only reason we hit that road was for a fuel stop.

@BYRDMAN
What is/are the Osarks? When I was going to school at Missouri State, I would ride Hwy 125 from Sparta, MO to Yellville, AR. It was a great road until they started bridge construction. Keep in mind, I'm also chasing warmer weather.

MO125 is one of my all time favorites
Lots of great roads in that area of AR

There are plenty of good roads just W and S-Sw of Austin.
You could easily just use Google maps to plot some routes.

May not be all that warm; they get occasional snow in the Hill Country in the winter, and you can expect fog in the am.

I was just up there last month, R336 has fresh pavement on it, just be-careful near the edges the gravel is a little loose and my dad's bike was throwing rocks at my helmet, and R335, just watch out for rocks. Other then that, it was nice and clear!
