Naked BMW s1000r ---boo

http://rideapart.com/2013/11/2014-bm...fficial-specs/

BMW top

Quote:
That sound you here? It’s the collective disappointment of motorcycle enthusiasts everywhere learning that this 2014 BMW S 1000 R makes only 160 bhp, a full 33 bhp less than the S 1000 RR superbike it’s based on.

Sure, 160 bhp (at 11,000 rpm) is more than anyone needs in a naked motorcycle. But in light of the 180 bhp, 1,301 cc KTM 1290 Super Duke R, it just seems…a little inadequate. Even the Aprilia Tuono V4R makes 180 bhp these days.

Can a naked BMW make up for its detuning anywhere else on its spec sheet? Well, its 83 lb.-ft. torque figure is identical to the superbike’s, but that peak arrives at 500 rpm earlier, at 9,250 rpm. In its defense, BMW says the torque curve has been shifted down the rev range, besting the superbike’s by a full 7 lb.-ft. all the way up to 7,500 rpm.
Guess Im glad I got the Tuono now!

Area under the curve is shifted toward the low and mid range. It's the same basic engine. All they did is rob Peter to pay Paul.

Serious... like anybody here in MH can actually feel 5 lbs difference on a bike like this.

The headlights are still googly, but the Quasimodo resemblance is greatly diminished.

The I4 isn't my cup of unleaded, but plenty of folks won't mind.

The suspension downgrade, however, is inexcusable.

Because there's just as much plastic and brackets on there, but now it's all curvy and tight instead of being large flat sheets.

Kinda makes sense to lower the power in the RPMS... cause you won't be screaming to 150+ mph (I don't think) on a naked. So maybe it has much more usable power, and lower, for the offset in peak #s. Too many people look at Peak #s instead of usuable power and broadness of curve.

Edit: What he said ^

I like it--but I also like the Super-Duke. And the Moto Guzzi V12 Lemans has been confirmed but as for a release date, who knows.

Who needs usable power when you can have bragging rights about how much HP you bike puts out even though you cant use it all legally.

When I read that I just though of Huggies, "Im a big kid now" commercials . I bought a slow 600 so that I would never have to worry about speeding and such.

in BMWs defense........... i have nothing!

the bike makes less power, and only two modes......and the front end looks like Opie from Family Guy...

I'de rather find a used S1000RR and buy the kit from Wunderlich! even it being stupidly expensive!
