That sucks man.. I hope you got his plate and personal info.

If he's reasonable, I would hope he settles out of pocket in exchange for not pressing charges

things may be different now, but about 15 years ago, someone hit me just like that, except that cops showed up. After about 6 months I got a letter from DPS, saying I need to send them an estimate of damages to my vehicle, so I did, then forgot about the whole thing. Well about a year after that, guess who contacts me saying they need to pay me so that their license doesn't get suspended? Paid me every penny of that estimate. So make sure you get the cops to do a report, if its not too late.

Yeah, anytime an accident occurs with a possibility of >$1,000 damage, a police crash report needs to be made and filed.

I'm heading to the police station today to file a report. I know everyone thinks of a red flag whenever someone mentions no insurance I wanted to give him the benifit of the doubt. The guy didn't seem intoxicated more worried if I was ok hopefully I can get this sorted out.

Last time I trusted someone without insurance, they flaked on me. Next time im just calling the cops and pressing charges. Im sure 1/4 of the people in the city has no insurance.

Huge mistake. Every Mexican has a cousin with a body shop. Never give anyone the benefit of the doubt when they are already riding dirty

This. Happened to me as well except it was HCSO and they said because no one was injured they wouldn't send someone out.

That said, nothing good ever happens at 2 a.m..

Thats why in this town you dont leave your driveway w/o having uninsured/under-insured motorists on the policy as well as PIP (personal Injury Protection)

seeing a lot more of this. If you get hit in HOUSTON, or DALLAS, or even Austin, unless there is more than 1k of damage, and someone is hurt, they won't even send a car out to you any more. Gotta handle with insurance, and file a report at the actual police department.

How do you know how much damage is done? I would say there was 3000$ in damage done. The cop won't know the difference and you get your police report.

When you tell them what happened, they make there own judgement call.. I had someone back into my car about a year ago, and called the cops, she asked how it happened, and what was damaged. I said, headlight, and fender is dented. She said i needed to have more than 1k of damaage, or they woudln't send anyone out. I said im not able to give an accurate quote as I am not a bodyshop. She hung up :\ So, good luck with getting them out. they make there own rules. unless someone is hurt, of it's on the freeway, they arn't coming any more
