R6 engine lifespan

My bike is rapidly approaching 18k miles on the clock. I've ridden it easy for the 3 thousand miles I've put on it since December, but I don't know how it was ridden before I bought it. Assuming that I keep up with the maintenance as I should, how much life should I expect out of it?

it's a well-known internet factoid that R6 engines tend to detonate at around 20k miles no matter how they are treated because of the high mileage.

i think the r6 engine and all bike engines will last a long time, like +50,000 miles.. especially if you keep up with the maintenance... i think a bike engine will last a long time untill u crash it...

Time spent at redline and on the back wheel drastically shorten the life of your motor.

My '04 being ran extremely hard has about 30, miles on the odometer and shows no sign of slowing down... and this is without anything being repaired as far as engine work.

"How is 20k high mileage?" - when it's said on the Internet.

It's a another well-known internut fact that all motorcycles are worn out after 10k miles and should be sold for pennies on the dollar.

not hardly. there are a couple rc51's with over 100k on the od over on ther speedzilla forum. That is high mileage. My uncle has way over 100k on his goldwing. For a well cared for motorcycle 20k is nothing.

Awesome. I'll probably hit that (20k) quick seeing as how I commute to work on a daily basis.

Thanks for the responses,

Britt

I think the key note is 'Well known INTERNET factoid'

.... the web is a great resource, unfortunately finding quality, accurate information can be like searching for a gem in a pile of manure.
