Lightbulb 98 CBR 600 F3 or 01 Yamaha YZF-R6

Okay guys I'm shopping around for bikes. Tonight I'm meeting a guy for an 01 Yamaha R6. Tomorrow a guy with a 98 CBR600. Which one would you guys recommend? Which is a better bike? I've driven a Ninja 600 for a couple of months so either of these bikes I should be able to handle.
Thanks for any input.

I've owned both. I liked the R6 better. The CBR is more comfortable, but the R6 has a little more power and the front end is way better...The Yamaha brakes are better also. Depending on mileage though, one may require more maintenance over the other. Also, do they have aftermarket intake and exhaust? I would stay away from some homemade shorty pipe and "jetted" carbs. Check the charging system on both (rectifier). Check the cables for fraying and general crappy/stiff action/too much slack. Check the chain for kinks (no good) and make sure the teeth on sprocket look good. Check the rotors for scarring/grooves. So much to look at. What looks like a good deal could turn into a heap of maintenance. So if you buy the bike for $2000, but have to do $1500 in maintenance, you could have just bought a newer bike with fewer problems.

Thanks for the feedback! The more I look and do research the more I'm leaning toward the R6. Plus it's a little cheaper. Supposedly needs a back tire which is probably gonna cost me a couple hundred bucks. And thanks for giving me things to look for when buying because I wouldn't have thought of half of that. Still not going to make my decision until I see and ride both of them though.

The Honda will last longer than the Yamaha so put that into consideration who races a 01 r6 anyway

I did. Just for fun, its wrong to have fun around here? Oh and my "junk" r6 is rolling on 24k miles without skipping a beat. Only bad things are it looks older (obviously) and its carbed (and thats not even a bad thing really).

Well guys... in a wierd twist of fate I ended up with a 99 GSXR 600. Seems like a good bike and I got a deal on it. Are these know to be good bike, or what problems should I look for?
(I should probably make this a new thread Lol)
