Too Close Encounter with an SUV

Last night on 290 west just before the Huffmeister exit, I was rolling 90mph in the right lane on my ZX10. All of the sudden I feel something brush my calf on the left side of my bike and I see a Black Infinity SUV nearly run my over. The car brushed my leg. I can only assume he was drunk, hauling and was moving over lanes? Never even saw the car till it touched me. He darted back to the left back into his lane...I slowed cause it scared the out of me..and he hauled off of the Huffmeister exit. That was about as close as you can get to a vehicle without actually being a statistic! FAWK!

So this question will come up...why didnt you follow him...try to kill him etc?

Did not have a gun...he may have one in Texas and I do not want to get shot. I am assuming he was drunk and I am not interested in a situation escalating into SUV vs. Biker part 2. I was not injured and just goes to show you that anything can happen on the road. I could have been really up and had no clue it was coming..it was just that random.

cruising at 90mph and an SUV just snuck up on you? Need to put that head on a swivel and work on some situational awareness.

FWIW, glad you didnt get squished.

No was too caught up in the oh moment to read and retain it. I did look at it but not long enough to remember.

To be clear...he and I were not the only vehicles on the road. Cars in all 3 lanes. Snuck up...no. He must have been hauling in the fast lane and crossed over 2 lanes to touch me. He had to get in front of other cars to even get to the right.

Geeez! That was a close one! Glad it worked out. Good call on not chasing the guy down. Would have likely only made things worse. Too bad you weren't able to grab a plate and call in a report, about all you could do in this situation.

That be right!

That is why I check my mirrors and do head checks constantly. Sportbike mirrors are a pet peeve of mine. Some of them are practically useless for anything other than admiring my own elbows. I do everything possible to make them work better. I put ZX10R mirrors on my RSV1000R, ZX14 mirrors on my SV1000S, and extenders on others. Ugly maybe, but better than being a statistic.

a) be thankful you're not in the morgue
b) ignore retribution, getting back at him, etc etc
c) increase your situational awareness for next time... sure, you might not be able to catch 100% of every conceivable risk, but you *can* always improve on where you are right now.

Are you sure you weren't the drunk one! Probably one of my neighbors if he exited Huffmeister. Those SUV's can be stealthy bastards. Glad you didn't get FUBAR!
