Media is a business amigo, gotta add some dash to get eyeballs on the page. If you are naive enough to accept only one source for news, then, well, you are naive. Seriously, I pick up the news from at least four places and even then I believe about 1/2 of what I hear/read.

Reporters take an oath to tell the truth. If they lie nobody would believe them.

Why would reporters even want to lie? Who would benefit?

Ok, you've piqued my curiousity, what is this oath that journalists take? Is it like the Hippocratic oath that doctors take?

Advertisers. Plus, their name is in the byline, thus they get exposure. More exposure = more name recognition = possible shot at big league (read: Network) news.

If they lie then wouldn't rating fall. If they lose ratings no one would advertise...

Aha! You have realized the flaw in their logic; by bending the truth to attract more readers, they inadvertently risk driving away those same readers if their editorializations are uncovered. Yet they still do it which must mean either
A: people don't care
B: people have such short memories they don't remember
C: people are idiots

Sure there are some people who will call them out on bullshit, but the vast majority of people (enough to make bullshit profitable) are really naive enough to trust one source for their world view and are too lazy/stupid to vett their news against other sources. It makes them have think and process, and they rather be given opinions lest they have to come up with their own.

Too bad none of you sheep are willing to dissect a story from a credible news source. I guess you don't realize that lawsuits are filed because someone believes a report contained manufactured lies. Liars don't last long with legit news organizations. Sponsors stop buying ad time if the news broadcast they're sponsoring is shady.

Makes sense, they don't really teach much at UT.

Bevo, when I see a headline that some child was sent home from school with a note from the Asst. Principle that she was too fat, when in reality the text of the article states the note only indicated a possible health concern due an annual health evaluation determined her to be clinically obese, there is a lie being perpetrated. I don't put much stock in that kind of , but lots of people do, sheep as you like to call them. As you said, I vett my news from multiple sources, reputable ones if I can find them, because I want to form the most educated opinion I can before I go on the Internet and inform the world of what I think.

Wow, you've got it all figured out

FYI, reporters for legit TV news stations get their reamed for minor factual errors. They have to answer to the assignment desk, producers, executive producers, the assistant news director, the news director (station VP), and ultimately the station president. Their scripts have to be approved before air. Sloppy mistakes are not taken lightly and an outright lie will get your fired.

But you experts believe what you want like:
1. The government is to blame
2. The corporations are to blame
3. The media is to blame
4. Drivers are to blame
5. Everyone else but me is to blame
6. They're out to get me because I ride
