Opinions on track bike.

http://tulsa.craigslist.org/mcy/4094987749.html

A guy I know is selling this bike and I'm possibly considering it. What do you guys think? Seems to be set up well for the track - comes with some nice goodies. Anything in particular I should watch out for? Whats a fair price? Just looking for some outside opinions. In no rush to buy.

4k seems too much for that bike.

What I would look in a track bike is suspension (front and rear) and a steering damper. Also, that the engine is stock. I do not trust engines that have been opened, no matter who the builder was.

That being said, I am selling a 2007 ZX6r, it is mostly stock. I can make you a good deal if you are interested.

I would say $4k is a little high too, but he likely listed it at that with room to negotiate. get it for like $3400.

Like the exhaust, the penske rear, and the quickshifter. Don't know much about the '06 GSXR.

Don't know, but might expect more of a discount for stock forks. The front suspension is the $1000+ upgrade that someday, when you are fast, you will really want. Now you might not need it yet, but you can usually find fully set up bikes of this age out there in this price range.

Check the CMRA forum "for sale" section. There are a few older track bikes like this one on the market, and this is the time of year when you start to see more.

Thanks for the advice bud. I'm keeping my eyes out. Saw a couple on CMRA. One is up in the for sale section here (2007 gsxr). I'm not looking for a gsxr particularly. Just keep seeing them. Would prefer zx6r or r6.

I've spent a little time on both. Hard to tell from my limited experience. The r6 felt more like my zx10r. The gsxr felt almost like a touring bike. Much more upright seating. Not sure how that figures into track riding. Price and features will dictate my choice. I'm not fast enough for any bike to be my bottle neck at this point.

probably not, but its good very good to have something like this 05+ r6's or 06+ gsxr's zx6r 09+ 600 cbr's eh good bikes but if you go cbr get the 1000rr 08+

yeah the gsxr is suppose to be more of a all around bike, the r6 is more track orientated IMO

but if you have a guy who rides a gsxr at the track, i bet he would also tell you gsxr's are the best on the track. i ride an r6... so im just going to tell you how much i love the yamaha r6

I need to find a balance between price, parts, and overall condition. Seems like most used race bikes only satisfy two of those. I want to keep this around 3000 with 3500 being my upper limit and find a bike that's in good shape and already setup. I probably don't need a race purposed suspension setup though.

You saying 4k is fair? No title. BOS only.

Seems like the used track bike market sucks for the seller. This is why I'm waiting until I find something nice for dirt cheap. Not looking for a project though.

If you want a good deal in a track bike, wait until Christmas (just before/after).

So he threw out 4250 as a number. But that's with a trailer. Also said he would throw in pit bull stands (front and rear) and spare maintenance parts (air filter, oil filters, oil, spark plugs). Those parts add up quick.

There is also all this that I would sell.

RLS Slip on
OEM Headers
OEM Dampener
Stock Guages
Brand new, never mounted Pirelli rosso II front and rear (120/180)
Stock Swing arm
NIB Arashi Rear Sets in black
Extra sliders for Case Savers
OEM rear shock

So I might offer 4k for all of it. Includes trailer. I also know this guy. So there's that. I know he's not trying to screw me which is worth something to me. I could probably sell all those parts and the new tires for around 500 and have a bike and trailer for 3500 at the end of the day. Plus it's local. Harder to find in tulsa it seems.

Knowing and trusting someone makes all the difference. With all the goodies (and a reliable motor), that might be a fair price. Also, if the bike is local you can save some transportation costs.
