Wait, so you mean not everyone had to pass a basic skills test to get out of high school?

I enjoy grammar much more than I enjoy literature, so I took advanced grammar classes through college to fill my Eng/Comp requirements. :icon_bigg

My readin' & writin' skills are okay, I guess. I did spend two years writing papers continuously and made straight-As the entire time. Internet makes me lazy sometimes

And for the folks that have trouble with contractions like: you're, they're, we're etc. Just try to remember that the ' goes where the missing letters would be

what about the difference between it's and its?

It's is the contraction and its is the possessive. (I hope I remembered that correctly.)

I was able to stay out of the thread for an entire day. Not bad.

Iffen ya ever have cause to reallllllly wanna split some grammar geek's wig, get a lock on "lay" vs. "lie" (tricksy little irregular verbs they are), never ever and I f'ckin mean never write "alot," the word "cause" when the word "because" is needed or "of" instead of "have."

This is cringeworthy: "He should of bought alot more dog food cause his supply quickly ran out."

Gawd, how it warms the cockles of my bitter little heart to see you guys talking about English.

Easy - the ONLY time "it's" can be used correctly is when it is a contraction of IT IS. "It" isn't a person, so it can never own anything.

It's okay to use it like this = It is okay to use it like this.
The problem is if it's use is incorrect = IT can't have problems, so the possessive is incorrect.

(bad example, but just think about IT never having something)
