Bike Revs in Neutral After Starting Up

I've noticed the last few times I've started the bike, the engine will rev to 4000 rpms. I can close the throttle but nothing happens it stays at 4000 rpms. But if I rev the throttle myself then close, it will stop and go back to 1500 rpms.

When it does this I am usually backing the bike out of my garage or pushing it down my drive way.

Any reason this would happen?

Cold starts, or all starts?

Carbs, or fuel injected?

You can you take it do the dealership to look at it if its under warranty. 1500rpms seems a little high for regular idling but I have never had a 250 cbr.

Sounds like something is going on with the cold start system. Fuel injected bikes have an "auto" choke for when the engine is cold. It's supposed to idle up, but I've never seen one idle up that high. However, I am not familiar with the 2013 CBR250.

I would have the dealer look at it if it's in warranty, or have Patrick's guys take a look at it if it's out.

Is it stock or modded in any way?

Since its a new bike I would just take it back to the dealer. Im with Ayeele on this one. Could also try spraying throttle body cleaner down the throttle body and see if that works. Since your woodlands I think the closet Honda dealer is cycle shack north on 45.

That's where I bought it, and yes it is still under warranty, only 2 weeks since I bought it.

100% stock.

When I got home from work yesterday I started it up and nothing happened. Just staid at or around 1500 rpms, till it was fully warm.

Called Cycle Shack North and they said it was fairly common, something Hondas do. I'm not going to worry to much about it, but when I take it in for it's 600 mile service I'll bring it up to the mechanic and see what he thinks.

Can EFI intake leak? Thats what i would guess if it was carbd,

but lube your throttle cable and check for any snags,

I've never owned a honda but out of the 3 i have owned (only 1 of which efi) the bike should start out at a higher than regular idle RPM while warming up, then slowly decrease until it rests at the OEM suggested speed.

No "hunting" or "surging" or over-idling, those would make me suspicious of a problem. If this continues you really should get it checked out no reason to leave it un-checked especially if you're still under warranty.

My old 1979 Kaw LTD 1000 had a little switch inside. So if you use the kick start the switch cuts the rate of fuel flow briefly so the engine can't over-rev and grind the dogs off the kick-start cog until you release the foot crank peddle all the way back up. Then it mechanically pushed the button back into the switch and you get full fuel again.
Well, maybe this switch is just stuck in the "on" position and it just needs to be cleaned. Or try jiggling the kick start lever or maybe tap on the case with a ball peen hammer.

Hope this sheds some light on it fer ya....
I can tell you how to get to the switch if you want to try a simple cleaning.
