11-02-13 End of Season picnic/blowout

The last TMGP race weekend of the year will be in Katy November 2&3.
I would love to help make this a bigger event than they have ever had.
I have some ideas, but would like to get your suggestions.
I am thinking that the sprints would be more enjoyable for spectators who are not racers themselves and this being the last weekend the sprints will be on Saturday the 2nd.
I would love to see the lot filled with spectators for this event. The weather should be cooler and it would seem like the perfect time to have a family day with a picnic for the spectators. Getting folks out to see an event is the best way to have them get the bug and have the off season to prepare to race next year.
There are quite a few folks on this forum who race TMGP and a slew more who have expressed interest and with the ideas Denny has come up with for some new classes for next year, it could be a much more active season, let's help spark some interest. Having the Groms out there this last weekend was cool and I know that some of them have the bug, see if we can spread it to others.
It has been killing me to be a spectator this year and it is not certain that I will get to race this season, that has me even more fired up to get things started for next year.

Could you post more info about the event. Like the time and place. That would help me out. I have never been and would love to come out.

If we do this, it would be on Saturday, November 2nd at the Gulf Coart Kart track in Katy on Stockdick Rd. The gates usually open at around 8 am and the races usually start around 11 am and go all day. This particular facility is the most family friendly of all the local tracks, folks even bring their pets.
One basic rule would probably be no alcohol while the races are going on.
I have put in a request to allow parade type laps during the lunch break, but not sure yet if that would be allowed.

Yes! We want a Grom class!

Next time we are out we would love to do some parade laps too. That might get some newbies who don't have any track days under their belts to see how much fun it will be.

my goal is to have a 100 more spectators than normal with as many potential riders for next year as possible.
I would love to see some "spec" classes to keep the cost of the bikes down and have some fun competitive racing...
I also like the family atmosphere that comes with TMGP racing, familes being involved makes it more fun for me. My wife does not race but she comes with me on sprint days.

How about we put on a cycle related swap meet at the track on Nov 2nd?

Bring a table and sell your parts and gear before winter.

Obed-
You should probably get in touch with Jeff, and the rest of the TMGP crowd. I know they already have the schedule posted and that they try to make the final round go quick. Sprints are on Saturday, and a shorter version of the endurance on Sunday prior to the year end awards.
I'd love to see more people out at TMGP, we are definitely family oriented. I enjoyed seeing a lot more spectators, CMRA friends and the local Grom group all trackside this past round.
We plan to be there regardless, let me know how the plan develops

man, i love the swap meet/parts addition...
and yes it costs to spectate... Kyle was correct, for the one day it would be $10 for both days $12. I will get in touch with Denny and Jeff and see if we can get some kind of cut for families, not sure how the insurance thing plays into that.

I just heard from Denny, he likes the parade lap idea, he is going to follow up with the insurance and see how that goes.
This could be a lot of fun... bring your kids, they are often out there in the lot area with bicylces and skate boards...lets fill up that parking lot...

Sounds like a good idea. I'd pitch in a few bucks for a bounce house or something to keep the kids occupied. Maybe set up an XR50 with a thottle stop and a few hay bales in a small area of the parking lot?

Best invention ever...4 hours in one of these and the kids are too tired to raise for a couple days. I haven't used this one before, but this place covers the Katy/Cypress area.

The prices are not bad at all... I would also not mind doing a cotton candy or snow cone machine except for the fact that would require someone there to man it and give it out.

Why not try and get a big racer turn out. Have packed grids with lots of head to head racing.

If we can find some street tires for my 150 rims... we can go clubman style in the endurance!

Lets try and do this. Peter has a extra roller with street tires.

I may not have the money or time but if there a chance it might be a big grid and a lot of friends riding then I will want to be there.
