So my apt complex became a

So basically I chose this apartment complex because there were garages for rent to store my bikes. This made logical sense but now due to a shortage in parking they are implementing new parking rules. Permit parking and you will not be issued a parking permit if you have rented a garage. I think this is bullshit and went to talk to them about it. I pretty much got the tough response.

So I guess I need to figure out in the very near future my options as far as storage. So do any of you use a storage unit to park their bikes? How many bikes? Where? Cost? etc.

I pretty much have to sort this by 9/20 or my car will be towed from the complex...

Is any of that spelled out in the lease? They cant just change the rules in the middle of the lease. They can change the lease to say something different for the new leasers.

I am looking for my lease agreement now, but I distinctly remember it saying for vehicles... bikes are vehicles... end of story. I will report back once I find the lease agreement.

I'd say fight the power before looking for a new place/storage. That's BS that they changed the rules like that.

And they should allow you to have an outside spot since you are paying for the garage

Management can do whatever they want. Try and take it to court, you will be out of a place to live before you ever get to court and the court costs will make you think otherwise. The TAA membership on the lease doesn't mean to protect you.

Try and find a 24/7 storage unit that has your unit on camera. It's pretty common for crooks to jump the fence, break into 10-20 units and take their time getting everything they want out. Plus some units REFUSE to let you store a motorcycle due to possible fire issues, even though all that in other units is more of a fire hazzard.

I'm moving to dallas for a new full time gig and havent been able to find a decent apartment with garages, so I'm just getting a 1300SQ office warehouse with kitchen and shower for the same price as an efficency apartment. Now my bike will be parked in my living room/garage/shop/club/recording studio/ studio and I can molest her all night long.

Just ask a friend to keep it in their garage. And the money you save on renting that garage, pay your friend!!!

If it's anything like mine... garages are in short supply.

I was on "the list" and never heard anything until our 2 bikes were stolen and we specifically asked about a garage. They said "is there anything we can do to make this safer?" "Well, no... but we have been trying to get a garage for quite some time". One freed up the next week.
Basically said we were getting new motorcycles, and the complex obviously wasn't safe for them.

My complex doesn't have enough spots either... it's not CRAZY... but there are places that people regularly park along curbs (not fire zones, so not illegal, just inconsiderate). I could see an excessive limit (3+), or a limit on unregistered/inspected... but what you have is BS.

But yeah, do they really limit you to ONE parking spot per apartment? Even most 1 bedroom places are normally a couple.

Can you park in front of your own garage? (I can't at my place, no room... but it's an idea)

So that's easier, right?

Also, regarding renting another garage... they definitely are NOT cheap.

I'd make sure there's room in the storage unit for the car... so you can leave it there and take the bike home if need be (unless you planned on getting rid of the garage).
When I get back from a ride, last thing I want to do is go shuffle vehicles at a storage unit.
