Hill Country Labor Day Weekend 2013

I was fortunate enough to join two very good friends for a weekend on two wheels in the hill country....EMTAggie and Mantoe. We racked up over 600 miles in two days, and the memories are not likely to fade any time soon. Prior to the trip, EMTAggie asked me to plan a few routes. With the help of the all-knowing Google, I did just that. I put the planned routes in my GPS, and although it waxed retarded, we managed to have a weekend that won't easily be outdone in the state of Texas.

There is quite a bit of footage that I'm still sifting through, but all will be uploaded and posted as soon as I am able.

Disclaimer: The following video(s) may or may not have been taken from a bike strongly resembling mine or the bike(s) of those that were with me on a casual ride through the Texas hill country.

A Saturday cruise:

I highly recommend the radar detector setup I was using for this trip. I was running a Passport 8500 with a H.A.R.D. system from legalspeeding.com. It has a transmitter the plugs into the detector and a receiver that attaches to your helmet. The receiver has an LED light that fits between the cheek pad and shell, and the LED sits in your peripheral vision. Works like a charm and saved our butts within the first 15 miles.

At around 3:00 you pass my buddy's ranch that we used to have pasture parties at in high school. Can you imagine driving all the way out there to drink beer on Friday nights?

New camera entirely. The one I was using in NC fell off the bike a few weeks ago. Using a Polaroid now. Much more stable and infinitely easier to use. Arkansas is definitely on the "places to visit" list. I'll get there one of these days.

Biggest pucker factor of the trip. We went from this:

GOPR1814 zps8b61ebb3

to this mid turn. No warning signs. Nada.

Shot from an R6. Apparently there was a bike in front of it that strongly resembles mine. Who knew?

Fun little road. A local pulled out in front and provided an escort. That chick could drive.

HOw do you power the Radar Detector? Battery or?

I have a fuse block installed to run accessories. Full time power directly off the battery. I used a 3-port power outlet, chopped off the cigarette lighter plug and wired in a battery tender plug so I could kill the power while not riding. I just used the regular coiled outlet cord plugged into the multi-outlet to power the radar detector. They make a hard wire kit ($15), which I will eventually purchase and wire into the ignition circuit, but I didn't have time for that before the trip.
