Houston Riders and No Gear

I am very new to the motorcycle scene, but lately as I have been thinking abut buying a bike I've been watching riders around Houston mostly on 45.

I can't believe the percentage who don't wear a helmet and the percentage who don't wear any gear.

I would never tell someone what to wear if they want to ride, but personally I would be scared to death riding on 45 with nothing but shorts and a tee shirt on.

I just thought the number who wear helmets would be much higher then what I've been seeing on the road.

Someday, some of those people will become a red stripe with a piece of meat at the end.
They'll be wishing they had worn away some dead cow hide instead.

full gear, all the time. 2 simple reasons for no helmet. . It's easier to pick up skanks with no helmet on.

+1 I think Volfy said, "Those who don't think their heads aren't worth protecting with a helmet are probably right."

Post of the year right here. You seem to truly abide by the "each to their own" mantra but take full responsibility for your own actions. Kudos to you, man. I wish more people in this world had the same mindset.

I went into a store yesterday with my jacket on to get a bottle of water (it was hot) and one of the clerks was like "thats a cool jacket I have always wanted one like that" ... I said "its not cool ,,,its hot as actually" ... the other clerk who I assume is a rider or knows someone who does said the magic words "sweat washes off .. road rash does not" ... Touche Store Clerk

I don't recommend doing it, and I've said often before.... a dumbass will ride w/o gear.
On occasion, I have...and will ride 'dumbass'.
