not really, they can charge you for it. Doesn't matter what you see or not.

And so now you're running from cops in bumper to bumper traffic, if cop wants he'll take the emergency lane. Now what

Start riding on TOP of the cars, trials style.

Take the feeder road where there is no emergency lane and traffic is backed up with no where to go. It's not a good idea any way and I would not condone this type of behavior it childish at best.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, I'd rather get a ticket for "improper use of lane" than get arrested. I got too much to lose to run from the cops.

Not if that creates any harm to the rider, but if I see him/her coming with enough distance yes. Why? cos I can

Who lane splits on the shoulder? Thats not lane splittting thats riding the shoulder.

Ive seen this one car lane split many times on the same road on my way in. Its a metro or some small car and the lady drives crazy as and its a sight to see.

Pretty of you to try to cut off a felow rider just because you dont like it. Just because you dont agree with it you are comfortable possibly injuring a fellow rider. nice there guy and i hope the karma catches up with you. Im guessing you dont commute by bike at all to or from work or anywhere during rush hour.
Man, it is not a matter of "like" or "dislike". It is a matter of respect. If a mile ahead of passing me someone does not see you and you create an accident for doing this, why do I have to pay for it by sitting in trafic even longer until you guys clear the mess?

Same as when you sit for an hour and finally drive/ride by the accident. First reaction is, poor guy, poor family, etc. Now if you find out you sat in trafic for an hour because someone thinks its special for riding a motorcycle and created an accident, then it makes me want to stop and kick that someone's until tomorrow.

Then, in summary. I dont care if you split lanes or speed or go thru a red light. But when that could impact someone else, then I have a problem.

Watch your mirrors and fenders. My steel toe boots are cheap and effective....I'm not worried about them getting scuffed.

Ya better hang up the keys then, as well as cell phones. Drivers glued to their phones in heavy traffic only add to your frustration (i.e. traffic starts moving and they just sit there). I'd rather avoid the frustration (and the potential that one of those asshats might rearend me) and just get on home safely and quickly by splitting lanes. See ya on the road sometime, my bike isn't one in a million so if you're sitting on 290...one day we might cross paths.

Well, your a big boy. I'm a nice guy. I would let you try to block one side, then go around the other side and laugh.

I'm not every rider though. So, it should not come as a shock if someone punches out your window and gives you a carbon fiber knuckle sandwich.

Why do you want to play traffic cop anyway?

I can see this guy in an SUV's face in his rear view and tell that he's cussing me while I'm coming toward him. First he starts to try to block, swerves over then swerves back into his lane. Then as I come through he rolls his window down and literally SCREAMS at me " You're stupid!" Naturally I paused for a second beside him to give him the ol one finger how do you do. When I passed him he laid on his horn and I just waved.

Why the does this people off so much? It's gotta be jealousy because they are stuck in traffic in a car. I mean I was doing about 15 mph. This guy was in no danger , his car wasn't in any more danger than it was already ( I'm insured better than half the that will hit you) The fastest I will split is around 30 mph ever, and only in packed traffic.

What the is the deal?
Jealousy and envy mixed with ignorance

That's the whole point of lane splitting. Is that it is a NEW lane when needed.

AGreed. Once its no longer illegal we should treat it as another lane. Until then people who do it will be looked at by car drivers as those reckless bikers .
