Check out this Tard!

Sooo, I've been looking/researching doing a street legal sumo for awhile now, and i ran across this WR426. It seems that it has a proven/reliable powerplant. I will mainly be using this for work commuting (2mi each way) and the usual hooligan activities.

Im looking for some insight from those who have plated a bike, what issues you have run into, and a good site for wheels/tires/brakes. Guy has title on hand, going to look at it Sunday. Does 2k sound like a fair price?? Lets hear it!

you might call the state and get their input on this, the title he has is not in his name, but has the name of the guy he bought it from (?). I thought about this one myself.

Yeah that hmakes since. Previous owner signed it but he never put his name down to transfer it. Just put your name as the buyer on the title and forge his signature on the title transfer application. Use his signature on the title as an example. I've done this about 5 times. Or ask if his friend will meet you there when you buy it to show his ID and sign the title transfer application. Also run the VIN just to make sure it's not stolen.

Looks like a good deal to me. Those WR's are great bikes and make awesome sumo's. Those 5 valve motors can give you awesome performance with very little maintenance for a converted bike. For $2k with a title, i'd be all over that if I was still looking. Slap some wheels on it, horn, brake switch, get it inspected and then registered and you're ready to rip up the streets. Check out my build thread for more info on conversions if you need. I did a write up on my WR conversion.

Got a buddy with a street legal (street only kit, no dirt wheels) WR426 tard with lots of mods that he will sell for not too much more than this.

Perfect bike for Hooliganism!

That's a felony and I have seen people get prison time for title fraud, I wouldn't recommend signing anyone's name without their permission.

Worst case scenario, a bonded title can be done and won't set you back too much money. That's what I had to do.

How did DMV figure it out, or was it a complaint by the title holder ?

Different situation then just forged signatures. The guy was stealing trailers out west bringing them here painting them and registering them as homemade. But he was charged for falsifying title info. Just checked and he got 3 counts of "False Info on App/Veh Title" with 5 years each (ran concurrent).

I think that bike should be more in the 1500 price range. A set of tard wheels, tires, etc on the cheap will run you 1,000. If you ahve 2500 in it, that's about what it's worth.

My XR400 conversion was all in right around $850, but I lucked out with some used wheels with a rotor and caliper relocator.

That said, the WR is a great platform. If you can get it all in for 2500 with a full conversion, I think you are doing well.

Good luck.
