Yesterday as I was coming home I stopped at the red light where Westcott hits Memorial drive and all three lanes can turn left (the left two lanes HAVE to turn left). There were three bikes in the leftmost lane that has to turn left and one of the bikes had a female passenger on the back. When the light turned green these three asshats took off and all three went straight instead of turning left like they were required to due and they went down the small side street that only the rightmost lane can access. By going straight they cut in front of two lanes full of traffic that was turning left. I'm not quite sure how they managed to keep from being run over by the turning cars, including me. Let's just say that this was an example of the stupidity evening out between the cages and bikes.

On another note, a few weeks ago I was riding out the Katy freeway in the left lane when some idiot starts coming into my lane. I blew the horn and she looked directly over at me and continued to come into my lane as if it were not a problem. Rather than be forced onto the shoulder I escaped with the throttle.

The point is there are idiots everywhere.

How many swings did it take? I've considered this already in my short riding experience. Close calls come almost daily.

I have kicked dents in doors. If I can kick your door, you are doing something wrong!

Why are you riding next to a cage is the real question. If a cager can't see another car next to them, they will never see a bike.

The human brain doesn't process unexpected objects that well and inserts past known good data. ie, clear lane. You've all done it. Been looking intensely for something (keys, wallet, glasses), getting to the point of mad and then someone points out it's right in front of you. You know you looked there but the brain refused to see it. Abracazam, now it's there. What happened next? Laughter or anger.

Most of the cagers aren't trying to be dicks when they glare at you after almost hitting you. That's just the brain's response to non correlative input data. Suddenly everything the brain thought it knew about it's spacial environment turned out to be wrong.

Notice I said MOST of the cagers. Some people are just natural dicks. I'm surprised they arent already on a bike.

Get over it. Don't ride next to cages. Expect humans to be dumb simple creatures. Cause we are.

Agreed, the brain does work very much like you said. Ever seen the show my bleeped up brain? Pretty cool, the brain takes natural shortcuts everyday when it comes to something we repeatedly do. Although, I still think that 75%of the time it comes down to peoples carlesness on the road. Texting, facebooking, fapping, eating..
