New Member Introduction

Hey folks,

I am a new Motohouston member and just wanted to introduce myself.

My interest in riding began when I was a kid riding as a passenger on my dad's bike to trips to Estes Park, Colorado. He was a hardcore rider, and would ride rain or shine. Shortly after he passed about 5 years was the first time I bought a bike for myself. The thrill of the ride was addicting.

My first bike was a Honda 919 (one of the few remaining "new" (2007) that were left in Houston). I went to a few track days with Ridesmart and my track addition started. The 919 was a great around town bike but I wanted to get serious into track riding and maybe even racing one day. I sold the 919 and bought a 2009 Kawi ZX6r. The bike was (is) amazing. I did several more track days with Ridesmart and LSTD and made steady progress. Unfortunately a year ago I herniated a disc in my back and have been unable to ride in the hunched over sport bike position without feeling searing pain. I had back surgery last October but it's still impossible to ride longer than 5 minutes. I finally have made peace that I won't be participating in something I was getting so passionate about.

The exhilaration of the acceleration but also the feeling of being one with the bike and the feeling of being leaned over into corners is something I'll always miss. I'm working on healing my back and looking at other surgical / non surgical options.

Because of this I will be looking to sell my Kawi soon.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations on a sporty, but more upright seated position bike (i.e. standard, naked bike) let me know. I now wish I hadn't sold the 919...

Looking forward to meeting some good folks here and sorry If I sounded like a downer. Good thoughts !

Welcome to MH. Look at http://cycle-ergo.com/. Shows you the lean angle for just about any bike you want to look at to show you which has the most upright positioning.

I myself have a bad back .. T6-T7 fusion from a work accident. I ride a Ninja 300 and picked it for the seating position. It may not be the fastest but I have little to zero soreness after riding. And just about everything kills my back (atv - sold .. to rough .. jetski- sucks but still fun in moderation) but riding this little Ninja doesnt kill me at all. But that website will give you a good idea where to start if you choose to continue riding.

If I can't eat it, race it or sleep with it then whats the point?

Motorcycles are like women... once you ride one... you wanna ride em all.

Welcome Joe! hope to see you around.
Rowdy, that was interesting about the riding position, I thought yours would be more forward than mine turns out it is the opposite.
