Anybody have room for me and the bike? I just bought a new car that according to the manufacturer is not designed to tow a trailer and should never be used to tow a trailer. :BangHead:

And what kind of vehicle might that be?

I've towed with an M3 and a 350z, both did fine. Still got over 20 mpg and never had an issue (powerwise). Manufacturers are like old grumpy farts just whining about stuff "not to do" - even though its doable!

I think the issue might be in the transmission.
If the car does not have a way to disable the overdrive, then you stand to really screw up your tranny.
But, if you have a manual transmission, or a way you can disable the overdrive, you should be cool.

Haha! yeah it's a mazda3 hatch 2.3 manual trans. I was so excited about getting it that i completely forgot to check the tow capabilities. I posted on a mazda3 forum and found that people do use it to tow small trailers w/ jet skis or bikes. Only issue i might have is with the dealer voiding the warranty if they find the wire harness. Whatever i'm getting a hitch set up for it. Now I just gotta find a trailer to rent!

So I shouldn't use 5th gear while towing the bike?

You don't need a hitch and a trailer.
All you need to do is this.

If 5th gear is the overdrive gear in your car, keep out of it. Its not a real "gear" but an overdrive reduction. It wont be able to handle the stress.
Stay in 4th and you should be cool, but ask the Mazda3 forum, those guys will know WAY more than I do.

Did you Dyno it?
Sounds like that's the only way to do it right...

working on the dyno situation, thats the way to fix it right but not all of us are blessed to live in Houston, up here in Tyler its all ATV and cruisers. so doubtful i could get it tuned by trackday time. It actually runs decent at wide open throttle, just has a few gaps in the powerband midrange.
