Italian motorcycle racer Andrea Antonelli died from injuries in a crash during a race Sunday at Moscow Raceway in Russia, the sport's sanctioning body FIM World Championship said.

Antonelli, 25, raced in the supersport division of high-speed motorcycles. He crashed on the opening lap of Sunday's race in rainy weather and was struck by another rider, according to media reports.

Antonelli "was immediately taken to an ambulance where the medical staff worked to resuscitate him," FIM World Championship said in a news release. "Despite their efforts, Andrea sadly succumbed to his injuries at 2:10 p.m. local time."

Race organizers then canceled the race and other remaining events scheduled Sunday.

Antonelli raced a Kawasaki motorcycle for Team Go Eleven of Italy.

Except an Apache helicopter. An Apache helicopter has machine guns AND missiles. It is an unbelievably impressive complement of weaponry, an absolute death machine.

Why would they even have a race in the rain. Most riders avoid the rain let alone race in it. The riders behind the lead bikes probably cant see with all of the other bikes back wheel spray. RIP

Racing has always carried on in the rain. It is a true test of smoothness often allowing some riders who rarely win in the dry to get on the podium because they manage their traction better.

Well, motorcycle racers step up to the challenge of riding in the rain. NASCAR parks if someone spills a coke on the track.

Watched the race. RIP

Motorcycle racing is the ultimate Motorsport. Racing in the rain is what shows the colors of the true, dedicated champions.

Look at Kenny Roberts JR. He won a championship in motogp because of several wet rounds.

Because moto riders are not like NASCRAP drivers

As a racer, I'd rather go out on the track or during a race than get shot at McD's...or on I-5 in a road rage.

Ride on!
