Q.T. with my GSXR

Well as some ppl know, I ran into some issues with my bike ( little bit of fire ) last week. So this morning I got up early to mess with it. So I spent my morning changing the rectifier, spark plugs, air filter, fuses and oil change. As of now it seems to be successful , I'll have to do a longer test ride tomorrow. But as a maintenance noob it is a good feeling to actually do work on my bike and (hopefully) not break anything. Oh, here is what the old parts looked like.

Great feeling when you fix things yourself.

I did the oil, coolant, and air filter when I first got mine. Just changed the spark plugs yesterday.

I keep hearing about rectifiers and stators going bad on motorcycle forums. Is there any preventative maintenance on these items?

From what I found not really, most people just relocate it or switch to MOSFET design. I'm just gonna order an extra one and stator for next because apparently it will happen again especially with 06-07 model GSXRs. 08 gsxrs are suppose to have a better rectifier and stator.

Glad to see you back on the road again Joe. I also enjoy working on my bike but only the easy stuff like oil change, air filter, etc. not brave enough to open the engine yet!

I'm happy too, it felt like forever but actually it was only like a week or so.

I can ride my bike with no handle bars

I had the same problem with mine . Bought a MOSFET setup. It's good that since your bike is down do the extra maintainance while its apart. Did you buy a new filter or cleaned that one? My gsxr has 31k miles and still runs like a champ.

Should've let me know. I still have a BMC filter and velocity stacks from mine. I'll bring the velocity stacks to the next meet. You can have them.

Cool, I was actually going to call you about the filter but forgot and didn't go to southeast meet so I forgot.

Back in 2000 I took my first bike apart - down to the injectors - and put it back together. Thought I was being slick by labeling envelopes with the part names and putting all the fasteners inside them.
Got done and had about 23 screws left. Guess they weren't that important.

Some people aren't mechanically inclined.
