Bluebonnets are out

Not sure about you all but I am absolutely crazy about Bluebonnets. They stand for Texas, Spring and warmer weather.

If you go out this weekend, keep an eye out for them. The rains made them come out and they are gorgeous!

Here are some pics I took from going on a ride last week, stopping at the ruins of the Female Baylor College in Independence.

My mom took me and my sister for a drive to see the bluebonnets one year. I think I was 8 or 9. I've loved them ever since. We picked some and she was cracking up, telling us it was illegal and if the cops showed up she was going to say it was for a class project. :laughing6

Urban legend

It is a persistent urban legend that it is illegal to pick bluebonnets in Texas, possibly because the bluebonnet is Texas' state flower. In fact, it is perfectly legal to pick them. [1] However, bluebonnets along the frontage of Texas highways are on state property and as such are protected since it is illegal to damage or remove "State" property.

Ooops.. i guess what we did really was illegal.. lol

Yes, they are the state flower and I believe it's illegal to pick them depending on where they are.

The red one's are called Indian Paintbrushes and you can pick them all you want.

I grew up in a small town west of Houston and we had a Bluebonnet Festival every spring......for what that's worth

I know no one cares but I thought Faylaricia might. The ruins across from the church at the crossroad in Independence are whats left of an old stage coach stop.
When ever I go there I like to stand in one of the remaining doorways and think how it was back then.

I did the same when I stood under the pillars of the ruins for the Female College. :icon_bigg
