Price jump?

I was browsing Craigslist looking for a CBR, and came across an 08' 1000RR in Beaumont for $5000. Not too bad. I called, and got the answer I was expecting. It sold last Thursday. Oh well, the search continues. I had no clue as to who bought the bike until this evening. Apparently the price has increased by several grand in the week he has had it too. Although, I guess he doesn't really own it since he never transferred the title to it. Just a heads up should anyone be considering one.

Ehhh who knows what happened. I bought mine for around the same price then sunk $1500 in it the day i bought it. If i were to sell it i sure wouldn't sell it for what i bought it for.

It's just a different way of conducting business, that's all. I'd want a relative or friend to be well aware of the circumstances beforehand too. I look at the motorcycling community as a tight-knit community, in which everyone looks out for one another. I'm not attempting to start an ethics debate, just a heads up should anyone be interested.

I could care less about him flipping it but personally I think $7,500 is CRAZY for that but that's just me.

If he thinks he can get it, more power to him for the sucker that pays it....

I hear you. I'd like to buy a new CBR 1000RR, but it's the same bike it was in 2008 except for a few changes. I almost bought one back then, when Honda was offering $2500 in rebates. Bartlesville Cycle had them for $7200. It's hard to justify the $11,000 today for a new one, especially when the competition has traction control, abs, etc.

No kidding, I remember ebay had some for $6500 I was looking hard at. Brand new '08s. Pretty sure that was in '09 or '10 when economy took a dump and everyone was trying to offload the '08s. I almost bought one but didn't have the cash at the time so decided against financing. Every time I see an '08 for sale around $6500 or more I just think they could have paid about that for it when they got it.

Prices are higher in houston than Beaumont. And he probably expects to bring the price down a bit.

It's done all the time. People with cash in hand will jump on a deal and turn right around and flip it. They ask a bunch so you talk them down to 1k more than they paid and feel good about the deal. Don't hate. Be ready to buy quickly when you spot a deal.

Nothing wrong with what this guy is doing. He saw a deal and jumped on it right away. Hustling for that money.

Nobody is forcing you to sell at a low price. One can always say no...

back in 2009, I was buying bikes for 30-40% less than what they were worth. Clean them up a bit, do some basic maintenance, and flip them for just under NADA a week or two later. Cash talks.

I sold one last year that got flipped, but couldn't have cared less. I got what I wanted for it, didn't bump off my price and sold it within a week or so. I didn't want a hassle or to be dealing with an ad for months. The guy that flipped it did so for 5-600 or so, in a month or so, more power to him, I didn't want the headaches.

Exactly. If the seller is happy and the profit is worth my time, who cares.

As stated above- the original owner may have only paid 7-8k, so maybe he was just fine with riding a bike 4 years and only taking a 2-3k hit
