Decided to go High Dollar.

Always loved the Arai lids, top notch, but could never bring myself to spend $500+ on a helmet.

My buddy sold this one to me used. Love it.

Here's a story that EVERYONE should know. I got a brand spankin new Corsair(top of the line) for my buddy and on his FIRST ride he took a bad high side at Brookshire(RR) and smacked a fence post cracking his helmet at 90mph. Yeah he cracked it on his virgin run w the helmet but he sure didn't regret buying it. Arai's way of looking at it is MotoGP racer Nicky Hayden's life IS NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOURS!! Arai does not make a Pro's helmet better than what we buy. THAT is a great thing to go by! Spend the money, CUZ YOUR IS WORTH IT BUDDY!

I've read reviews where a lower and high dollar amount helmet has saved people's noggins
I had my first highside in a $100 KBC helmet
Arai does offer more features than your standard KBC helmet

I got tossed off at MSRH in a pretty violent tank slapper/high side at over 90... no concussion at all in my Shoei... so I bought another Shoei.

my 200$ scorpion saved my on the sisters, wacked my head good. More money doesnt mean more safety. A dot approved lid will protect your skull. Will it be as light and as comfortable, no. But probably equally as safe.

False. DOT is just a minimum safety standard for street riding. Top of the line helmet models in companies that sponsor racing are designed for racing speeds/scenarios.

I do agree with you that if all you do is standard street riding then more money doesn't equal more safety, but if you do track days, race, or are an aggressive street rider then more money does equal more safety when talking about specific models.

It's not worth it to "gamble" on my noggin. Arai wasn't comfortable for me, but Shoei's fit perfectly.

Nice pickup!

Everyone looks for DOT... but SNELL has higher standards.
I paid a lot for my Shoei X12 Marc Marquez but it is both DOT & SNELL approved, not to mention a trusted/proven brand.

My previous lid was an Arai Doug Chandler model and it was a nice helmet too!
