Thanks Josh.. Yeah I'm excited. I haven't had a "new" bike since 2000. I love my 1000 dearly and it has been probably the best bike I have ever owned as the whole package... But I was ready for something with some modern upgrades..

I could have done a motor, suspension, brake upgrade on my 1000 for probably around $8k-9k but... It wouldn't likely make the same power and the BMW (piped/tuned), wouldn't be near as reliable... Plus it wouldn't have ABS and the other goodies so.. I decided to sell it and upgrade.. I sold the 1000 for $5k, got the Beamer for $17.5k OTD loaded out... So it basically cost me $12.5k to upgrade... Plus the 3/36 warranty and future resale value..

Probably not my smartest move to buy a new bike but.... It is what it is..
They already have the bike at the dealer and its serviced out, ready to go.. I just don't have time to go get it. I'm on 7/12s on day shift for the next 2 wks so... It's sitting on the showroom floor sold and waiting on me.

Gonna order the pipe/PCV in the next couple weeks.. I have to put 600 miles on it quick so I can do the first service, get the ECU unlocked and then I can put the pipe on it and get it to Cheese to tune.. It probably won't be ready for the October mile, plus registration will close before the bike is ready.. Ill have to make the next event.

I can go get it and start on those 600-miles for you...

You should have time, registration doesn't open until Aug 15th so you've got three good months to break it in and get the goodies installed...

Tell the dealership to put a "Do Not Sit On" sign on the bike.

Yeah Mag, I told the sales guy that.. He is a friend of mine so I'm sure he will tuck it away and put a sign on it. There was like 3-4 other S1000RRs on the floor people could sit on.

Mine is serviced out and has 5 miles on it so it better be like a virgin with an iron maiden on it when I get there..

I have a feeling you're going to develop a love/hate relationship with this new bike of yours. Love it because of its capabilities, hate it because you're not used to something that requires more maintenance than your Suzuki that has never had any major issues.

Either way, congratulations! Let me know if you ever decide to sell it in a few years.

^^^ This

The bike flashes service intervals on the dash, it must be plugged into MoDeTec (BMW system) and logged at every service... To keep the 3/36 warranty anyway.. After that... it. Ill service it.

Dealer already told me I'm cool with mods, as long as I don't spray it.. (They won't know anyway right??...lol)

2 weeks and counting...

You made more hp since you had different gearing

... BISH PLEASE!

If I made your money I'd have a C6Z in the garage with 1k HP...not some 11yr old junker that blows up or breaks weekly..

My plant trash lives out there...that's why the only place I get to ride is to work..and never have weekends off..

Besides that, I'm financing over half of the Beamer anyway..
Have credit, will purchase...

That's right Brett! I think you were my first victim!

Those were the good ole days buddy... We did a LOT of good riding back then..

I'm gonna try to start riding like that again but... It's hard when I work most weekends and no one rides during the week..

Got her home after a 170 mile ride...
3D4B930E 00F4 45C2 8A09 2FAF9316D5DA 16860 0000256C97290D8D zpsdc61854c

I gotta get 600 miles on this thing quick... The 9000 rpm rev limit is just retarded....can't do with it.

After a quick run the Crab River and Plant roads, I've determined the suspension and braking are phenomenal.... This thing just wants to turn..It basically falls into turns itself... Its a lot of fun to ride in the curves and definitely inspires confidence..

Front brakes are 1 finger easy to stand the bike on its nose...feels like power brakes on a car.... The rear brake is completely useless, doesn't even feel like it works... I believe this is due in part to the "integral braking" of the front brake lever also working the rear brake to a degree.

As for the engine, its smooth and the fuel injection is very clean and precise, there is a good bit of vibes in the bars, especially in the 60-65 mph range, it smooths out some after that.

As for power, well, right now it sux... the low to midrange is pretty pitiful...feels kind of "750 ish" to me under 6000 rpms... My old GSXR1000 would leaps and bounds stronger then this thing under 7000 rpms. With the break in rev limiter imposed at 9000 rpms, right when it starts getting moving, it limits out so.. Not much fun until I can get the 600 mile service done and get it unlocked. Also at that point, I can put the SLICK key in it to unlock slick mode, which offers the most aggressive settings for the DTC, throttle response and power.

This thing needs a gearing swap ASAP... I'm getting the pipe/PCV ordered this week. I may start a mod thread on it to keep up with everything I do to it over time..

First items will be:

Pipe, PCV, custom map, -1 tooth up front, integrated tail light/fender eliminator.

Second round will be the air shifter, adjustable links, clutch mod, windscreen and HIDs..

Third round will eventually be powder coating the wheels gun metal grey to match the body, install ceramic wheel bearings and a carbon fiber belly pan.

Its gonna be a fun ride for sure once I get it dialed in to my liking.. Hopefully I have as good a time with this one as I did my 1000...

334 miles so far, I have an appointment to get the first service done on next Thursday so I gotta get with it and get another 300 miles on it. Hopefully I'll get another 150 miles tomorrow and finish it off during the week..

More seat time review:

PROS
1) Transmission is the smoothest, slickest shifting tranny I have ever had in a motorcycle, including the under cut R&D trans in my busa... The shift assistant is seemless and smooth, even faster shifting then my air shifters with 50ms kill times... (Ofcourse this is only shifting at 8800 rpms right now, may be different under full load but....loving it right now)

2) Brake system is THE BEST brake system I have ever had or even ridden...(and I've rode tons of bikes with Brembos and radial MCs). One finger stopping and great initial feel/bite.... Front brakes are unbelievable.... Rear brake, is non existent...I literally can't get it to do ...May as well not even be there.. But I never use the rear brakes anyway.

3) Suspension is very firm, yet even over the bumpiest roads, it just absorbs the bumps, only a couple times did I hit a bump that actually kicked me up off the seat.... on my old 1000 and busa, every bump kicks you off this seat. This suspension is very compliant, very stable and seems to absorb everything, even in mid turn. I would not change a thing on this suspension or steering.

4) The Matte finish... I wasn't really that turned on by the matte finish, I liked the color but wish it had been glossy...but after riding it and cleaning it each day, I now love it.... No smudges, no streaks, no swirls, no finger prints....easy as to clean. I'm definitely feelin it now.. I wish the S1000RR lable was blue instead of red though... I may have some made and change them to better match the BMW symbol...

CONS
1) Vibes through the bars at slower speeds kills me, sends both of my hands to sleep in less then 20 mins... Over 75 mph it smooths out but...Anything less the 5k rpms gives me needles quick... ***Just ordered Motovation heavy bar ends... Hope they help***

2) The seat is a freakin plank. It feels good to the hand but even after only 30 mins its tearin my up... Definitely gonna have to find a softer alternative...The shape of it is and the riding position is fine, but the firmness and lack of padding/compliance is the killer. May have to get something custom made.... ***Not to sound gay but... today I wore padded bicycle shorts under my jeans and the extra padding helped a TON....but still need a better seat***

3) The radiant heat and frame heat this thing puts off is insane, at highway speeds its liveable but in slow speeds and traffic, its horrible. I'm gonna have to find some sort of tasteful rubber pad I can stick to the frame or something... My busa had these from the factory and they work well.

That's about it for the negatives so far...

Currently, this is the list of items I have ordered and waiting on:

Brocks CT 17" megaphone TI system, PCV, 16t front sprocket (-1t), DMP tail light, Motovation bar ends.

I'll soon be ordering some HID head lights and a slightly taller, light smoked windscreen, also some sort of stem stand for my iphone.(GPS)

But I am seriously loving how this bike rides, handles, I never realized how much different it would be from my GSXR1000... I just can't wait to get the nannies pulled on it and get it in slick mode...
