I think that was early prod...the one in the ebay ad is vin 4xxx so I think it's good...

From what i remember, they had a bad batch of valve springs...was causing valves to surge.

The long mystery sales hold on the 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R is scheduled to end in late January, and the company has given an explanation for the holdup: the possibility of intake-valve spring surge (coil vibration) under what Kawasaki calls “unique riding conditions, such as on a racetrack.”
The intake camshaft, valve springs and spring retainers of new ZX-10Rs will be replaced to eliminate this possibility, “without affecting engine performance.”
Computers are wonderful tools, but physical testing continues to be essential for critical performance areas, such as valve-train stability. Valve-spring surge is the rapid bouncing of a wave of compression from one end of the spring to the other. It is excited by very rapid cam acceleration. Surge results in a swift variation in spring pressure acting against the spring retainer, which is fixed by a pair of tapered collets to the end of the valve stem. This pressure variation can result in the valve’s failing to accurately follow the cam contour, or, as Kawasaki’s press release words it, “The surge could cause the intake valve to seat improperly.” Improperly means hitting the seat at too high a speed, leading to bouncing and damage.
Every manufacturer must deal with the possibility of surge, beginning with a computer model, moving to rig and dyno tests, and finishing with road and track mileage. Spring surge is very speed dependent, so much of an engine’s defense against surge comes from the fact that, in track use, rpm is constantly changing—never holding constant at the one particular speed that makes surge most likely. I suspect that Kawasaki discovered a possibility that surge could develop if rpm were held at one particular high and constant value, and decided to withhold the machines from sale until even this possibility could be eliminated.
The new cam may be subtly reshaped to suppress surge, the new springs may have a different natural frequency and the new retainers are most likely required because the new valve spring length is somewhat changed. All these changes can be accomplished without affecting engine airflow—or, as the Kawasaki release says, “without affecting engine performance.”
People are expecting a lot from this new ZX-10R on both street and track, which motivates Kawasaki to ensure that they are not disappointed.

That's a pretty tough deal to beat for $10,900... I don't think it has ABS tho..

They probably initially ran low spring pressure to reduce rotational drag/resistance (aka more power), thus causing the valve float issue.. You see this all the time in the car world, I can't believe a huge company like Kawasaki would have an issue like that but... sounds like they got it resolved.

2011 ZX10 is the best bang for the buck deal out there right now. Id have to do the all black one but.... All black bikes are so plain to me...

I'm gonna wait it out for a bit and see what comes up.... I agree the ZX10 is ranking up on the possibility list... Deep down my heart is set on the BMW but.... there is a lot of BS associated with them....not to mention expensive..

After scouring the net, here is some spy shots of what is believed to be the pre-production 2014 S1000RR. Ofcourse its disguised and likely to change appearance in actual production models but.. You can definitely tell there has been changes made..

0199D92C 7B36 4028 95DB A28626DD5D1C 2235 00000425E65E8466 zps9a3269ff

Completely different shift linkage, forks, exhaust system etc etc..

Hopefully some info will be coming out on it soon.

My 1000 is confirmed sold as of today, its leaving me at the end of August so... BMW needs to get off their dead and build me a bike..

If BMW builds there bikes like there cars, there will definitely be issues. But when you're non a forum, you're going to get a lot of negative things. But hey, people still driver/ride BMW's because they're awesome! "BMW, the ultimate driving machine."

Have you looked into the Duc 1199? Good low end and midrange power to go along with a healthy top end.

^^^ THIS..

Looks like a mid 80s Yamaha..

Lots of hate going on about the colors on the Beamer board..

So far granite grey metallic is in the lead for me... That or a left over 2011 ZX10 in black for a huge cost savings.. (Although no abs on it)..

Any other input from anyone here about the latest and greatest liter bikes?

I'm trying to get real world experience, not mag rag stuff or sponsored endorcements.....

As much as I like Ducatis, the look/sound/pimp ability... I wouldn't want one.. Too much maintenance BS, too many electric issues... Not to mention hot as to ride and not very comfy... I do lots of commuting and city riding so.... I don't need a "track bike"..

Lastly, they are not nearly as fast as a ZX10 or S1Krr... Look at real world Dyno tests of them... They are low 160hp range on average, good power for a twin but... I'm wanting something in the 180+ range

I don't mind any of the color schemes on the 2014's honestly but you've got to get what you like Alan.

I feel you on the low-mid range. That's how they are making the top end power, they give it up down low. Look at some of the built GSXR's, they make the same power when built for that power band, but the new crop gives it to you from the factory with a warranty.

Whatever you decide, hurry up and get it ready for the Houston Mile in October...

Just get the BMW and be done with it. Only the ZX-14R has more hp, but weighs 100 lbs more. I think you would be happy with the BMW. The only reason I got rid of mine was because my legs were cramped on it (I am 6'1").

The 1199R is a close match to the BMW for HP, but costs $30K
My 1199S is no hotter than my ZX-12R and that is in 90 deg+ weather. It is not as smooth as an inline-4 in stop in go traffic though.

Over 200mph that's for sure with no wind....wish we could compare them same day with some of the other bikes. Maybe the ZX14R from this site and SLEEPER Chris will be present for comparison...
