new guy, never ridden before

Sup MH, my name is Chad. I've been wanting to learn how to ride for a while now, but due to just starting college, time has been a real dilemma.

My original plan was to take the awesome cycles course which two of my friends took, but now I've looked into the MSF course as well. Should I take both courses?

For my first bike, I wanted to get either a gsx-600, or r6. I understand that there is alot of debate when it comes to starting off on a 600 bike. I know there will be people who say start off with a 250, but I trust myself to respect the throttle. I'm not trying to race on the highways or anything like that. I know that a bike can get really great gas mileage which is a plus.

But yeah, that's pretty much it and I hope to learn much from this forum.

Get a CBR, GSXR will put you into the squid category.

R6s tend to do this when you crash them.

Or rides a GSXR. But you are correct. When other people chime in and try to discredit me, just ignore them.

remember most smaller bikes get better mpg, cheaper ins, service and etc. There is a great starter bike on here for sell, sv650 for like $2K.

a question about the quantity of gear to wear

as we all know houston gets really hot so do guys tend to wear less gear as the weather starts to heat up? I've never worn motorcycle gear so I don't know how much it vents

I wear gear no matter how hot. Only time this changes is in the winter when I wear more stuff to warm up. I do t care if it's 110, gear on.

+1

There are mesh summer jackets with some armour. But lighter the jacket = less protection

Depends on how much you want to be trained before you get your bike. If you think you need it, by all means both. Both are the same price but i think awesome cycles will give you a discount if youre a forum member

Ok, the R6 has razor sharp handling. The GSXRs have strong motors but less handling. My opinion? Get the R6 if you are a beginner cuz handling is MOST IMPORTANT, especially for a beginner. And Hondas are great all around bikes! Kawasakis are like Suzukis, strong motors but my buddies w Kawis over the years blow up their motors and have probs, NOT what a beginner wants! Gear, wear it at ALL times. My buddy got 140+ stitches on his face goin to Blockbusters to just return a movie..not good :(

yeah i was leaning towards the r6 just because of that

i guess it's between the r6 and cbr600rr

I know that it's kind of impossible to be for sure of a used bike's past history since people just may not report it, but aside from asking a seller how he/she maintains their bike, is there anything about the way they speak or behave that can give way to how they maintain their bike

Squids are really any immature riding behavior that is not real smart or safe. In my opinion we all have made squid moves at one point or another.
