Galveston Seawall and Beach conditions

i rode to Galveston this evening and the smell of rotting seaweed was so strong that i immediately turned around and left after topping the seawall.
it was a wasted trip and my time would have been better spent riding in another direction.

i'm starting this thread so that others with information concerning traffic and water related conditions can post their experiences here, for others to benefit from. so, good or bad, please share your info so that others can take advantage and steer clear or be drawn in on the nice days.

You're on the wrong bike.

Where the pavement ends for one bike continues on for the other.

Do you think it will be gone by Sunday afternoon? I plan on riding down the blue water highway this weekend.

i live less than 15 miles from Galveston and in the 34 years i've been driving/riding there, it seems like the problem has gotten worse every year. with that said, i don't anticipate the problem going away in two days. you can look up galveston web cams and get a look at the beach front to see how much seaweed is there. just don't use a camera in front of the San Luis hotel because that beach is raked daily.

Avoid 610 to 290 outbound. 2 left lanes closed traffic pretty much at a standstill

Avoid I-45 South between Dixie Farm Road and El Dorado...2 right lanes are closed. I just came back from a ride and spent 30 minutes just stuck in traffic. I saw 2 bikes parked on the shoulder and 1 Harley dude illegally running the shoulder.

When it's this hot out, I ride the shoulder or lane split. F waiting in that and getting heat stroke.

Sounds like the SW side is good compared to the rest of town for once. Nothing down this way but kamikaze soccer moms.
