Saw Scooter Rider Run Over This Morning

On my way to work this morning traveling on a 2 lane road in Northwest Houston: left car that was 2 cars in front of me made a left turn. Scooter was traveling in opposite direction and dumped the bike left and jumped off right and slid underneath the car. The car's right rear tire ran right over him which appeared to be right over his torso. He didn't appear in good shape after I got off the phone with 911 and finally left the scene. At first he rolled over to his back but wasn't moving much after a few minutes. Could see blood all down his face, he was wearing a half shell helmet. I hope he turned out okay, wasn't able to find anything on the news.

What is stupid was that there was a car pretty close behind the scooter. It was like the guy turning left may have tried to do a quick turn in front of the car and assumed he would slow down but didn't take enough time to see the scooter. They did stop after they ran him over though.

Expect the unexpected and never assume. There was a car that turned before (in front of the car that ran him over) and it appeared to me the scooter rider was caught by surprise that the second car darted across.

Be careful out there. I don't ride the streets much anymore with the exponential increase in texting while driving these days. Buddy got rear ended low speed on his bike by a texter. Another distraction for drivers to run over people.

Life long friend got rear ended by a big rig last friday one mile from his mom's house. Killed instantly, was in a cage, with seat belt. Kids were supposed to be in the car but stayed to eat with granny. He had just signed up for big rig school too. It's dangerous out there. Always be on the ready, always.

dont jump off or 'lay it down' either... brakes/tires are going to slow you down more than your on asphalt/concrete

If I'm riding toward a cager who might be turning left into my lane on a two lane road I usually weave a little or flash my lights, wave my arms, anything to get noticed. Getting cutoff there is a bad scenario...you're closing on each other & the outs are usually a culvert or going into the oncoming lane. Hope the rider is ok.

At least he was wearing a helmet. Standard gear on a scooter nowadays seems to be flip flops, shorts, tanktop and shades with no helmet.

Hope the guy recovers.

Not the best protective gear but you never know, he might be onto something.

I wonder if they're going to let him keep the blouse and fake breast for the jail time he will be serving. They're going to pass him around like a rag doll wearing that haha !!
