I don't have a gun but a paintball marker can suffice.

My GUESS. Father came out to confront, 4 or 5 guys... kids come out... they get beat, and neighbors come to the rescue of kids/father.

Should've locked bike, and called it good.

As a parent, if they were mine, a 12 and 16 y/o would NOT have followed "on their own volition". I'm the parent, they are the children, and I am therefore responsible for what's in their best interest. So, even if they did come out being nosy, the priority should have shifted at that moment.

to me seems as a good ol' 911 call and at same time be present with your favorite weapon to defend your property and family. Shooting would be a last resort but definitely defend what is yours, no matter what it is.
Being the first to call during altrecation means a whole lot especially to those with CHLs, as they are the initial contact, not the crook who says 'they pulled a gun on me' bs.

The attitude of 'if it means that much to you then have it' appeals to crooks as they will continue to 'want it' from others. Giving in encourages the activity.

^exactly. A lock good enough to keep them there awhile, and a 911 call stating they are breaking into your apt.

Sidenote: I am constantly amazed at the number of bikes I see left under the stairs are apartments. I would've been slapped silly if I left my stuff outside. At least they leave something to ride around the courtyard while walking the dog... even if it is a pink razor scooter.

Mine aren't locked, but they are on a 3rd floor balcony behind a locked door. If spider man wants them, I'd feel honored.

Nailed it.

Plus, there are neighborhoods/circumstances where if you don't stand up for yourself, the t will never end. Seems the whole crew was in this one for the good of the neighborhood

slightly different spin...

http://www.khou.com/news/local/Man-c...211798261.html

Quote:
HOUSTON -– A man who allegedly tried to steal a bike outside a north Houston apartment later returned and assaulted a father and his two sons, witnesses told police.

It was around 3 a.m. Monday when the dad heard a noise outside his apartment on W. Parker Road just west of Interstate 45.

The man told the Houston Police Department he opened his front door and saw someone trying to steal a bike. The suspect apparently saw the dad looking at him, and he ran away.

The man returned a short time later with four or five buddies, and they forced their way into the dad’s home. The father’s two young sons, ages 12 and 16, jumped in to try and help fight off the attackers.

Witnesses said the ensuing fight spilled outside, and neighbors joined in to help. One of them used a dumbbell on the suspects, who eventually fled to a nearby hospital.

The father and sons were sent to the hospital and were expected to recover from their injuries.

^^^LOL!

As far as the "different spin", I restate my first post--Guess he didn't have a gun? Under those circumstances, there wouldn't have been a hesitation to use it in my house.

I'm glad the family will be okay.
