From click2hoiston

Several people were hospitalized early Monday morning after a bike theft turned into a violent confrontation at the Pecan Shadows Apartments in northwest Houston.

Houston police said a father spotted a man trying to steal a bike from his apartment patio on West Parker Road and Millerview Drive.

The suspect saw he was being watched, and escaped through a hole in the fence. He later returned to the apartment with 4 or 5 friends.

Police say when the father saw the suspects heading towards his apartment and came out to confronted them with his two sons ages 12 and 16.

When neighbors heard the fight, they went outside.

Some joined the fight, even using dumbbells to beat the suspects.

The suspects got in a vehicle and drove to Doctor's Hospital on Tidwell Road.

Neighbors were taken by police to the hospital to see if they can positively identify the suspects.

The father and his two sons were rushed to the hospital. They are expected to survive.

Houston Police said so far, no arrests have been made.

Guess he doesn't have a gun. Perfect time to shoot. Instead, he endangered the lives of his children?! I get protecting your property, but I would NEVER endanger my kid's life over anything. Nothing is worth that much.

Sorry but no fighting would have occurred at my apt. Especially with my sons there. Mr 1911 would have had something to say about it.

Chase them away and call, the cops the first time, avoid confrontation. They return with buddies, yeah.. Open season.

I would expect everyone of y'all gun nuts on here would do the same.

Presuming that the the 'children' didn't follow the father on their own volition.

Its sad that the world is so up. The crooks went to way too much trouble to steal a bike. Since when does a bike split 3 ways to the point its worth this ? these days will go so far over 5.00 its crazy. Seems a real job might be easier

My grandma used to say, people will steal dog if you treated it like it was worth something.

I was kinda thinking the same. Lots of trouble for one bike. But hey, this IS Houston we are talking about here, people have been known to do some weird just because.

Not demonizing. Just keeping an open mind. Details are sketchy at best and too many a time things are not what they first seem.

It is never about a bike or a car or a house...it is about the principle.

While, imo, it was not the best way to handle the situation, I give them props for standing up against the thieves.
