opinions on riding boots

I figured wearin cowboy boots arent as safe as riding ones. So I figured its best to invest in some. My budget is about 150 but I might be willing to go higher if I have the cash. What are some good ones that yall know of where I can just wear with jeans? Or should I invest in riding pants first. Unfortunately I can only get one of the two right now.

I got the alpinestar waterproof fastbacks. Pretty comfortable for daily wear and not hard to walk around in.

i have alpinestars smx plus boots perforated, and they work great on track/street. got use to them quick, prefer them over shoes.. feel more comfortable even when riding. I also wear them with jeans as well, and they fit right over them with ease. i think they are great. i found them for like 180 shipped, very lightly used. keep a eye out in the classifieds, forums, cl, ebay, etc

+1 for watching ads for used boots.
Look for ankle restraints. Ankles are very easy to injure and very hard to walk without.

Look for boots that have ankle restraints or you might as well just wear heavy work boots. The protection will be about the same and the cost will be much lower.
If you go with heavy work boots, get ones that lace up. Slip on bbots will slip off in a crash... seen it.

Definitely get ankle support - after that, you should be able to afford a nice pair for $150.

Most of us ride in jeans and they seem to hold up in accidents just fine. I know I have heard stories of the jeans ripping, but I know several members who have been down in jeans and they didn't get rash. Invest in a pair of knee pads, instead - much cheaper and you get the same result!
