Noob looking for a mini to race

Figured I'd give it a shot. I've been shot down for getting a dedicated track bike from the ol lady. So I'm looking at getting a mini.

I posted on the TMGP website that you were looking for a bike.
There is very little traffic on that site, it is mostly just race stuff, but maybe someone who has one for sale will see it.

I've been searching CL for the last couple weeks for a klx110 or a crf100 after reading one of Obed's posts a few weeks ago. There are a couple available for around $1K there but you really have to jump on the deal quickly. Try searching Houston and surrounding cities, searching "dirtbike" and "dirt bike" will help also..

Not sure what your budget is, but ever since the Honda Grom came out I've been thinking about selling my CR85 chassis/XR100 motor motard. It's race ready and has a lot of work and money into it. RS125 wheels, lowered suspension, new slicks, 135cc stroker motor, 4 piston Brembo brake, etc...

Only downside is it will take Grom money or very close to it ($3K) to make it worth selling.

Wow that bike is insane!

Can't swing that though, I'm looking to be around $1200 all in.

Aren't the KLX's auto transmissions? How does that work on that track?

I've found a few KLX's on craigslist, but I'd like to find one under $1000 and set it up. I found one CRF.

Yes they are automatic clutch, just downshift and let the rear brake loose

The easiest thing is to find one already set up with at least the wheels and tires, but there is not a lot of those for sale.

To just get started and on the track, find a good $600-$800 XR100 and buy the 16" XR80 front wheel ($150) and a set of BT45s ($250). A good rider on that setup can still beat me on my fancy bike. I think the XRs are easier to adapt to since they feel more like a big bike than the KLX, but there's plenty of fast guys on those too.

The best thing you can do is a $300 membership for unlimited track time at the Katy track, so save some cash for that.

Buy this guy's CRF100 and tell him to switch front wheels with the XR80 he's selling too. Just a set of tires away from racing then.

I ha e a 2004 DRZ125L no e stock but it runs awesome and starts every time. I've done Amsoil oil changes on it and that's all its needed for maintenance so far. I'd like $1000 for it but give me a buzz and I may have some wiggle room. I think I ha e the title around here too.
