TMGP questions

So I've just learned what TMGP is, and it looks fun as . I wanna race, but my current budget could only support a ninja 250 probably, this looks like a cheap way to have some fun.

How much money am I looking at to get into this? Assuming I found one of these bikes and set it up to race, what would I be looking at?

On another note, does anyone have a race bike they'd like to sell.

Well a ninja 250 isnt allowed in TMGP ... But much cheaper bikes are.

Just find you a set up one.. usually cost you about 1200 bucks set up on the high end I think .

Oh nah, I meant the 250 to have as a track bike I guess. I was looking at a dedicated track bike...but my wife aint gonna let me spend $3k on another bike then more for every track day I can think of LOL.

So now I'm looking to get a mini and possibly get into TMGP, if the high end is $1200 then I'm IN!

I would suggest coming out to the TMGP race in katy in two weeks...
meet some of the folks and put the word out that you are looking...
I know that some of the guys have bikes they are not using and from time to time will sell one...I have seen complete race ready bikes sell for 1K...depends on how much they have in it and what mood they are in. The more they have in it and the more attatched they feel to it, the more it costs... darin cooley may still have one or two for sale.
I would suggest starting F7 with a crf100 or klx110.

check out the minis and motard section, there are several threads on TMGP bikes and racing.

Mosy popular bikes are kx65/ klx110/ crf/xr100. Its kind of hard.to find a set up bike right now. goodluck. to build one i would say $1000-1500 depending on what u get.

I'm doing MSRH that Saturday, but I will definitely try and make it out Sunday and ask around.

What exactly do you have to change other than the tires and bars to ready it for racing?

tires, safety wire and catch bottle is all you really have to do...
wheels and tires is where the money comes in if you do not buy one already built.
if you are in it just for the fun of it, it is "cheap" racing... if you get real competitive, it can get expensive.. the more you mod the bike, the more it cost.

It is cheap.. compared to anything other kind of racing lol... even CMRA Mini Endurance is expensive comparatively.

I'm just looking to go out and have some fun every once and a while.

What are the fees to race?

to race you have to join TMGP that is about $30 a year...
if you have never raced before you have to take the riders school, that is $35...

the endurance race is split between team members so how much it costs you depends on your team.. how many and how y'all cover the expense of who ever owns the bike..
sprints, most guys spend between $65 and a $100 bucks for the day. (depending on the number of races you run)

A set of tire I think were around $125 or so. Depends on the wheel size really.

Get ready to find out how slow you are.

I raced WERA, CMRA and TMGP and I had way more fun racing TMGP. I felt like Rossi out there sliding the front and rears out there. The cost was so cheap. , the gas getting to the track usually was the biggest expense!

if you want to see what some of the bikes are set up like, there will be some guys at the katy track this sunday doing some practice... i am not sure if i am going to make it or not. There is a thread in the minimotard section about it... I think they are planning on being there around 9 or 9:30...

Obed,
do you have a source for an XR100 rear wheel?
Its my understanding that to outfit street rubber, you have to get a rear rim re-spoked with a front hub? Is that correct?

I do not. I went with new hubs, rims and 17" slicks...front and rear.
Maybe Jason or TomballD can help you, I think they used 16's.

No rear wheel is 16" already, just grab a BT45 and put it on.

As for front, cheapest option get an early XR80 wheel (also 16") and again mount BT45.

Utilize an XR80 16" front rim or obtain a rear and convert it to front?

Answered my own question....buuut.

Will the XR100 brake fit into the XR80 hub or do I need a different brake as well?
