That is killer. Liquid cooled triple 850...

Add a belly-pan, bar end mirrors, and delete the rear bracket....done.

Yeah I thought that's what they were going to release. Being the first Japanese company to release a proper factory supermoto would have "changed the motorcycle world" more than removing a cylinder from the FZ8.

mmm I like it. Now if they would just get on with releasing that Triple "r6" I would be much happier.

I don't see how Yamaha could possibly keep this Euro only. This is a major shift in their engine architecture and it would be difficult to sustain R&D on both I3 and I4 lines for different markets. FZ6 and FZ1 are getting awfully long in the tooth, and even though FZ8 just came out, it is more or less a parts bin special without wasting a lot of R&D dollars on what now appears to be out-going platform. I see Yami replacing the entire FZ line with triples. I would prefer a half-faired version of the MT-09, but I'm liking the basic layout of the bike.

Besides, Yamaha had previously hinted at replacing the current I4 supersports with the new I3, so R1 and R6(7?) with triples are a real possibility too.

They are gunning for Triumph Triples, Ducati Monsters and BMW K800s over in Europe. At $10,000 USD, I'm going to spend a little extra on a Ducati if I'm an American buyer.

The American market won't flutter from our beloved I4's and V-twins, or a status icon...

That bike needs to be run off a cliff. I don't know what looks so off about that, but I normally like the Z1000, and that bike just looks hideous.

Oh no. The early XJs were great UJMs. I had an '82 XJ650 and an '86 XJ700 Maxim. The later XJ's, starting in the early 90's were nowhere near as good. Had a '92 Secca II with an weezy 600cc air-cooled motor. Yamaha quit bringing them to the US soon after that. Europeans seem to like these bargain basement I4's.

The XT660 is kinda like the Africa Twin, meant to compete with with similar Euro soft-roaders. Don't see any cross over there.

Don't see why Yami couldn't price the MT-09 the same as the FZ8, or even less, say at $7999. One of the reasons Yamaha gave for developing the triples is lower production cost than the I4. Priced right, Yami will sell the dickens out of these, probably more than the FZ's currently combined.
