I chose an SV650 for my first bike and feel its a solid choice to start on. Lots of options out there though.
I'm taking the one at Gulf Freeway. People say they are good, but I'm just not sure. My friend wants me to get a 250. Yeah there are a lot of choices to pick from.

From my friend Jacob who is also a member of motohouston I asked for advice on where to get my license and he said look up MRH and that's where I signed up I;m really excited for this class because not only is it 4 days after my birthday, it's also a bonding moment with my mother. She's big on Harleys and always wanted one so this is as well my gift to her dream too.

I can not contain my excitement for this class! I got it bad lol It's awesome knowing there are a lot of people in this community that back you up on your decisions. I have a lot of acquaintances that say it's a bad idea but I don't care what they say I want this for me and it's for me and not for them!!! Pretty rad that you are 36 and ride! You are never to old to learn

It's really confusing
I started on an old air cooled 750 4cyl but im guessing that would bit a bit big for you.
A 250 or 300 prolly be best

Welcome to the forum. There are a couple of SE meetups and rides.

I always highly recommend to start on a 250. Do you have to start small? No, but it really does help you learn good handling habits. The SE guys can attest that a 250 can indeed keep up and ride houston highways just fine (come to a meetup and ask).

Remember that this is your first bike not your last. Once you get riding, you will figure out what you want to use the bike for and can make an informed choice on the second bike.

There are plenty of '08-'12 ninjas on the market for relatively cheap and they hold their value.

Wear your gear and have fun.
