Expensive.
I wouldn't mind owning one, but not gonna pay BMW prices for a Honda.

As you would expect, I think they sell ok in Europe. Just like you don't see that many ST1300's either compared to the 'Wings and cruisers. But for me, price would be the main factor. My VFR800 which I've made a lot of additions to has better range than the VFR1200 and even after adding full luggage, heated grips, throttle lock, gel seat, radio/intercom, and many others, still cost me less out of pocket than a VFR1200 before adding any options. And I've ridden a DCT VFR1200 and didn't see any advantages over my 800 unless you want DCT or the bigger motor. But the 800 is more than adequate unless you do a lot of 2-up riding.

All of the above.

The 800 is a FANTASTIC machine. The 1200... err... not so much.

Most who want bigger/more than an 8 will go for the 'wing.

VFR1200 don't sell well primary for the same reason K1300S sales pale in comparison to other popular models in BMW's line up. These two live in the nebulous region between sportbikes and sport tourers and don't particularly excel in either duty. "Gentleman's sportbike" is oft-used euphemism. "Oldman's sportbike" is a more blunt term.

Mine is the 9th bike I bought since I got back to riding less than 3yrs ago, and it fits my riding better than all of them. Far more comfortable than the ZX10R and RSVR Factory, superior feel through winding backroads than the C14 and Sprint ST, and leagues above the FZ1 and SV1000S in terms of build quality and refinement. At the same time, it is too heavy to compete with the latest litre sports, doesn't have the range or long-haul amenities to challenge the traditional Sport tourers, and the long wheelbase and shaft drive make it less lively and agile than the nakeds and streetfighters.

Too, I think the media overly hyped the VFR1200 when it frist came out, way beyond what the bike can deliver. Great bike, but a do-it-all it is not. It is at once full of the best qualities of different genres and laden with disappointing compromises.

Only those who truly appreciate this dichotomy would get one. Fortunately for me, I am one. Unfortunately for Honda, there aren't too many of me.

Ahhh ok. I did watch press vids on it and they made it out to be the best in the world. ....revolutionary...
Thx for input all. I keep bouncing from vfr to busa for a tour ish bike. looks like I'm better off buying a cheaper older vfr, then a crazy expensive vfr1200 anyways

I suspect, and this is just me, that the old, tired ST1300 will eventually be retired completely, and a slightly bigger VFR1200-ish model will take the place of both of them.

And I fondly call the ST1300 old and tired because we own a 2005 model and it's still like buttah out on the road. I ride the ultra solid, super smooth ST then get back on my VFR800 and feel like I'm on a rattletrap! lol

I really don't know what Honda is planning for the US market. The only recent new bike that's relevant here is the FB6, but event that is a parts bin special that cost little to R&D. The rest are all aimed at martkets other than US.

Oh well.

I don't like the VFR1200. However the shaft drive is nice but that's about the only plus of the 1200. I like my 07 just fine..

I thought the VFR1200 was a cool bike until I saw how much it weighed. Then I saw one in person. It's kinda ugly.

I like the CB1100 old school standard bike build with Fi and other modern stuff. But it looks like its from the 70's or early 80's. It would be a great commuter bike.
