another newbie

Hello. New to riding and just picked up my first sport bike.
Its an 07' Yamaha R6s. I have been practicing in large parking lots w/ a friend and planning to take the upcoming Safety course.
Taking things slow and my own pace for now.
After that, I plan on signing up for a track day to learn even more.

Thanks guys!

Helmet, jacket, and gloves are all good. Fishing the closeout buys for boots, more protection, and Kevlar jeans.

Welcome! Add to the list knee guards. They go for $19.99 to $69.99, only take a couple of extra minutes and is way better than a knee replacement when riding casual. But nothing beats leather, and those usually come with built in protection. Let us know when you are ready for track, Ridesmart offers 50% off and free leather rentals and boots (hold your driver's license as deposit) for first timers.

Other than that, a friend of ours has the following advice (on a different thread):

Always look far ahead and when in traffic behind a car, ride to one side of then lane or the other so you look around the car and see whats going on up ahead. Take your advice from riders who have been riding a long time, the older/wiser the better.

You will crash eventually so get geared up. And remember this, there two kinds of motorcycle riders. Those who have crashed and those that are going to.

There are old riders and there are bold riders but there are no old and bold riders.

Ive been looking at the A* knee pads! Just wondering how the wrap around feel? Though pricey the brace style look more comfy.
