Leaning in a turn is scary at first, but the harder you push the smoother it is. Good luck with the riding.

Wht do you mean "Until Recently"

Slow down. Don't try to keep up with anybody - ride your own ride. MSF. Do it.

It will always say never until you get the password and enter it. It's ONLY for women.

I have never asked, because I can't imagine there are any women on this site who can give me better or different advice on motorcycles than the men can. I'm not here to make friends.

WELCOME!
Nothing wrong with this. I did this same thing.. but waived the street riding almost entirely..and went straight to track!

Hi, welcome to Motohouston (MH)! And also welcome to a new way of life!

I'm a also a female (some people can't tell from my name) and have been riding for five years now, and have accomplished a lot during those years. Best thing I did was joining a group for noob rides with my gear.

But, you need gear. What do you have so far? I look back now and can't believe how lucky I was to get away with only a helmet and gloves basically. The group I was with at the time made me have a jacket before I went on a ride with them. Now if it's a "casual" ride, I wear helmet, textile jacket with impact protection, textile pants with impact protection, knee guards, gloves, boots. If it's more agressive or just simply the weather is right, some of my stuff gets switched out for leathers.

Once you get enough seat time, I highly suggest doing a track day. With Ridesmart, they will let you get 50% off of your first track day (that comes out to either $60 or $70, depending on the track), and they will let you borrow the required leathers and boots (I'm 5'2" and was able to wear a set of their leathers). The track day will help you learn what the bike can do and what you can do. It's not a race, it is a riding school.

Don't hesitate to reach out on here, lots of people willing to help. Especially us girls!
Thank you for making me feel welcome. I so far have a helmet and gloves. My birthday is in two weeks so I think my family is going to buy me an Icon Textile jacket I've been looking at. I'm progressing on the turns but the ones that get me are the tighter ones. (Stop sign turns, street turns, etc) I'm not quite sure what to do on those yet. And also learning using both brakes instead of the rear. I've been just riding around my neighborhood trying to. Get the swing of things. But there's still so much to learn. Looking out for cars behind me, using side view mirrors, I just take it slow and easy. Just the turning is what is getting me because its a little wobbly.

Hi

Just research there are so many threads, books, videos out there to study.

Always head check. 250 mirrors aren't that good well most motorcycle mirrors for a fact.

I like this lil video but don't lean your bike too much since you don't know your bike that well. yet...

Well Good Luck

Welcome from SL! Please wear gear at all times and ride within your limits. If you haven't already, taking the MSF course ( I took mine at Awesome cycles, was a bit far but I benefited from the class ) will make you a more confident ride imo.

Oh yeah definitely use your front brakes as a primary option in combination with your back brakes. (70%:30%) that way if you have to react to a sudden stop your rear brakes won't lock up. Have fun riding and get gear! You can replace sweat easily but you can't easily replace broken extremities.
