Check Point in HOV

Every morning on my way to work I see two motorcycle cops at 290 and 610 pulling people over in the HOV. At first I thought it was was those people who had no passenger but this morning traffic was backed up pretty bad I was riding with somebody on a white fireblade and these cops step in the middle of the hov and start pulling over random cars does anyone know what this is about because they were looking at us pretty hard like we did something wrong.

I pass by them when they are at 290 and Beltway 8. They just seem to be sitting there talking to each other though.

It's to check if you have a passenger or not. At least that's what the LEO was doing in the HOV lane I utilize (Edloe entrance, heading southbound 59)

Got a ticket for riding in an SUV by myself. I understand that you can use the HOV lane by yourself, if you have an EZ TAG they charge you 4.50 for using it.

Well, I was not aware that this rule does not apply between the hours of 5 and 6pm.

techically you are the passenger, you just don't need an additional passenger.

It's usually COH or Metro police writing tickets for anything.

They do it on the 45 HOV also.

They're also northbound on 59's hov. I see them at 0730 otw from work.

I honestly think they're being ridiculous with the time they're choosing to conduct this "stop" project.
Ppl are trying to get to work dangit! ...and They are doing the planet a good deed by carpooling or They paid their way (Ez tag). The cops need to especially NOT pick on hov lane users.

UNTIL your HOV or ex tag gets you nowhere b/c single passenger vehicles use the system since no one would regulate it's use. They aren't picking on anyone. They are ticketing people driving in the HOV who are not authorized to do so. They are ticketing people who aren't driving up to date legal vehicles too.

There are better solutions such as waiting at the ENTRANCE of the hov or the park n ride so ppl won't get on. Not towards the end holding up 30+ vehicles.
My point is it's hurting tons of ppl to catch only a dozen. Money for the city vs civilians trying to get to work smoothly.
If They want to get ppl with tags.. They can do it NOT during rush hour. Not on a private, paid stretch of freeway. Do it like How They do it at 59s n bellaire under the freeway .

In April the new’s did a big story about HOV on 290 and not checking it. They found in a year only 15 tickets had been issue. I know someone that would ride it and see them on occasion going by. I asked how the do you ride it, well ticket is 180ish and say you go few months and not get caught. Save time, money, gas ect and get caught it is just a toll fee. Well as of May 20th they turned it into a “HOT” lane, ie can pay a toll at certain times and us the HOV lane. I ride it and have been riding it for sometime now, just get to pay now. But I suspect that the cops are out there for a few reasons. 1 there has been someone in the booth at the location where you switch lanes and either pay or use the HOV lane and not pay. If you slip through there, and use the HOV and didn’t pay and single occupancy they probably call ahead, ie stopped cops and tell them to pull you over. The other reasons they are there is for using it at the wrong time, registration ie vehicle not up to date. They have this past week hit the HOV at least 290/I-10 pretty hard.

In the end it is a numbers game, is it your turn to get a ticket. They can only pull so many people over ie usually 2 cops so 2 cars every 10-15 min and how many people pass by that they could have stopped. Been there done it last week on 2 different times. Know someone who got a ticket though, but for a year riding fee. Not a bad toll fee if you ask me

forbid 30 extra cars. Take the mainlanes and split. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Unfortunately, enough don't think the laws apply to them, so we have to spend tax dollars trying to make them "pay". It sucks, but it is what it is....kinda like how it cost me more to insure the idiots around me than it cost me to insure myself to be on the road.

....15 tickets in a year on 290 Jet? I'd like to see that credible source. I know one of the 15!

I read the same thing he did. People were and wanting to know how many tickets were written. I was something like 15. Im sure that prompted a crackdown

And 5-6 outbound. But of course only toll for single driver. Bikes and cars with passengers are still free all the time.

And this morning around 8:30, there was a police motorcycle at the HOV entrance of the West Little York P&R. I didn't see the actual person so maybe he was hitting the can.

And I welcome them checking for people breaking the rules. In the past, after they check for violators for a couple of days, people catch a clue and there's a LOT less to stop. I pay my taxes, register and inspect my vehicles and have an eztag for the tollways. me off when other people think the rules don't apply to them and steal from the honest people.
